Salem was referred to Dr Michael with a long history of walking on his toes. He needed surgery to lengthen his calf muscle and straighten his toes.

He has done very well, so well that he was able to ride his horse only 2 weeks after his cast was removed! Making an exact diagnosis and accurate clinical assessment allows directed appropriate surgery to restore function.

It is great to see Salam able to do the activities he loves again.

Another year has passed working here in Abu Dhabi, my sons are now here for the festive season and I am on leave until the new year.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my patients and colleagues for all their support in 2025.

It has been an exceptionally busy year in my practice. I know some families have had to wait a while to see me but I am grateful for the trust they put in me to treat their children.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year when 2026 comes around.

I have known Jory and her family for many years since I started working here in Abu Dhabi.

It is heartening in pediatric practice to be part of a child’s development and watch them growing up. Jory has always asked excellent questions about her own condition and surgical care and it was a pleasure to see her again for her latest follow up.

Proud to be a resident living and working in this great nation as it celebrates 54 years since the United Arab Emirates was created.

Since I moved here eight years ago, every year has seen the city of Abu Dhabi change and the pace of progress continues to astound me.

Today I went to the newly opened Natural History Museum in Saadiyat. The location, architecture and the exhibits are breathtaking.

As an orthopedic surgeon, I was especially fascinated to see ‘Lucy’ the world’s oldest skeleton found in Ethiopia 3.2 million years ago.

This weekend our entire medical team attended the Middle East Pediatric Orthopedic Society Annual Conference in Dubai.

Dr Michael Uglow and Dr Ahmed Hammouda were honoured to contribute as speakers and together with Dr Sheik Asif and Dr Loay Basha we were grateful for the opportunity to hear presentations from leading experts in the field.

Investing in shared knowledge means better outcomes for the children and families we serve.

I have completed my three year term serving on the Board of Middle East Pediatric Orthopedic Society (MEPOS).

It has been an honour working with these highly talented colleagues. All are leaders in Pediatric Orthopaedics and committed to enhancing care for children across the Middle East.

I look forward to watching MEPOS continue to grow from strength to strength.

Eight years ago today, I moved from the UK to the UAE. Like many expats, initially I moved alone and if I’m honest I wasn’t sure how long I’d be here. Two years maybe?

What started as a new chapter has truly become home. From the warm welcome I received, to the incredible professional opportunities I’ve been given, the UAE has shaped both my career and my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Over these years, I’ve had the privilege of exploring this remarkable country—its history, culture, and its unique place in the world. Even more inspiring has been witnessing the UAE’s vision for the future, with its bold ambitions for the next 50 years. It’s a vision I’m proud to embrace and be part of.

Thank you to everyone here who has made this journey so special. I am especially grateful to my wife who joined me full time here three years ago having sold her business and packed up our UK life to move across with our four dogs.

Here’s to the years ahead, and to continuing to call the UAE our home. 🇦🇪✨
