Climate data (scientist)?

We want to design a world-map which indicates where Sponsh would work and where not. To do that we need (to combine) data on precipitation, humidity, temperature and sunshine.

Do you know someone with knowledge of- or access to international weather data, maps and organisations? Or a data scientist, willing to help out? That would help us loads!

This is really cool: ecosia.org. This search engine plants trees with the cash generated by your searches. It's super easy to install the plug-in on your browser (incl Chrome). That way, rather than financing Google with your searchers, you plant trees!

Ecosia is also B Corporation certified, meaning they are the real thing and truly sustainable.

Super cool tip from our latest hire Mila (Chief Researcher)

Ecosia uses the ad revenue from your searches to plant trees where they are needed the most. By searching with Ecosia, you’re not only reforesting our planet, but you’re also empowering the communities around our planting projects to build a better future for themselves. Give it a try!

We made to the top-3 of the Rabobank Duurzame Innovatieprijs 2019! The winners announcement was during the super cool Springtij festival on the island of Terschelling. Unfortunately we didn't become number one this time. But nevertheless very proud of making it to the top-3.

Planting trees: the most cost-effective way to reduce global warming.

"Adding nearly 1 billion hectares of forest could remove two-thirds of the roughly 300 gigatons of carbon humans have added to the atmosphere since the 1800s. 1 bln would be enough without any other measures."

We hope we'll be able to add-in a little in that approach!

Trees could remove two-thirds of human-caused emissions

Sponsh: solving water scarcity by looking at nature

Water is life’s first necessity. Droughts are increasing world wide: California has been struggling for years. Southern Europe had its driest summer ever in 2017. In South Africa, water is now the major concern.

Nature has learned how to survive in dry, coastal regions for millions of years. How? By retrieving water from air. Although invisible to us, air contains large volumes of water. Animals and plants in desert regions rely on water from humid air to survive.

So we thought: why don’t we do that? Together with University of Technology Eindhoven, Sponsh has developed technology based on this phenomenon. We make smart textiles and applications that extract water from air. During, the night, when it is cold, our material absorbs large quantities of water from air. During the day, when temperatures rise, the fibers squeeze themselves and the material releases nearly all this water. The water can be used for irrigation and drinking water. No energy needed. Fully off-grid. Affordable.

We were founded on January 26th, 2018. Our mision is to solve water scarcity by providing affordable water for everyone. Thus revitalising communities and areas struck by drought.
