Prevention is becoming one of the most critical levers shaping the future of health.

Health systems around the world are placing greater emphasis on early detection, healthier living and long-term wellbeing to reduce pressure on care pathways and improve outcomes at a population level.

Abu Dhabi offers a clear example of this shift in action. Through its Healthy Living Strategy and wider policy alignment, prevention is embedded across environments, behaviour change, community engagement and data driven insight, creating the conditions for better health long before treatment is required.

This approach reflects a direction that Future Health actively champions. One where risk is identified earlier, insight is generated sooner and decision making is guided by foresight rather than hindsight.

Remote monitoring sensors and intelligent digital tools have transformed how chronic conditions can be managed.

Beyond supporting daily decision-making and reducing avoidable hospital visits, connecting sensor data across health systems and care infrastructure enables earlier insight, better prediction of demand and more coordinated responses — helping health systems act sooner, support clinicians and deliver more proactive care at scale.

Today we announce a collaboration with MIT Solve to launch our inaugural Future Health Challenge: “Building Anticipatory Health Systems through Population Sensing”.

With chronic diseases expected to contribute USD 47 trillion in global costs, and nearly half the world’s population lacking full access to essential health services, the Challenge is a global call for innovative sensing solutions that will help shift health systems from reactive care to predictive and anticipatory models.

Shortlisted innovators will be invited to showcase and pitch their solutions at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit (7–9 April 2026), with USD 300,000 in prize funding available alongside tailored mentorship, and access to international networks.

Together, Future Health and MIT Solve are supporting innovation that strengthens early detection, improves equity, and helps build more resilient and effective health systems worldwide.

The future of cancer care is shifting from reactive treatment to anticipatory prevention.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), between 30% and 50% of cancer deaths could be prevented. Advances in sensing are beginning to change outcomes, not just for individuals but across entire health systems and populations.

From molecular diagnostics and liquid biopsies to AI-enabled risk prediction, sensing technologies pave the way for proactive cancer management, improving survival rates and quality of life through timely and targeted interventions.

On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in , Future Health convened leaders from across health, policy, technology and science for our latest Future Health Dialogue, hosted by Dr Asma, Executive Director - Health and Life Sciences Sector at Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, and moderated by Hadley Gamble.

Together, we explored a central question: what will health look like in 2030 with stronger prevention and timely intervention?

The dialogue surfaced four themes shaping the future of global health:

1. Smarter regulation that enables innovation while sustaining trust
2. Meaningful access to care, data and information
3. Population health by design, with Abu Dhabi offering a leading blueprint
4. Prevention in practice, not just in principle

Together, these insights point toward health systems that are predictive, inclusive and prevention-first - built on collaboration and intelligent use of data.

We’re grateful to our host, moderator and to all those who contributed — including representatives from the Ministero della Salute, and our founding partners PureHealth, M42 Health, Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi, Mubadala Bio, our strategic partner Mediclinic Middle East, and associate partner Burjeel Holdings
