With endometriosis, endometrial-like tissue grows outside of the uterus (typically on the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and/or outer surface of the uterus); whereas with adenomyosis, endometrial tissue grows abnormally into the muscle wall of the uterus. Both adenomyosis and endometriosis can be painful over time, but they’re treatable and not life-threatening.
