We extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a revered global leader who dedicated his life to peace, dialogue, and compassion.
In February 2019, Pope Francis made history by becoming the first pontiff to visit the United Arab Emirates. His visit was a powerful symbol of interfaith harmony and was warmly welcomed and fully supported by the UAE’s leadership, especially His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who personally patronized the event and the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity alongside the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb.
This remarkable event marked a new era of religious tolerance in the region, further highlighted by the UAE rulers’ dedication to promoting coexistence and human fraternity. Their unwavering support allowed Pope Francis to hold a historic public Mass attended by over 130,000 people at Zayed Sports City — a first in the Arabian Peninsula.
Pope Francis's commitment to fostering unity among diverse faiths and cultures has left an indelible mark on the UAE and the world. His legacy continues to inspire efforts toward peace and understanding across communities.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
