Our mind is like our heart in a lot of ways...it continuously thinks, like our heart never stops beating. We can either respond to our thoughts and react to them in a judgemental, non compassionate, and negative way, or we can observe them with the opposite attitudes and simply let them be. We can master how we then react to situations in our day, how we communicate, and how we show up to life.

Renee & Catherine are both heavily involved in the Health and Wellness industry in Dubai, and have worked together for many years helping people recover from injury and improve their overall function and well being.
Renee Knowles, NZ born and bred, is primarily a Physiotherapist, Women’s Health Specialist, and Clinical Pilates Instructor, and is therefore very accustomed to working with people on a daily basis to help them recover from the stresses of pain, injury and dysfunction. “I am blessed to have a job that is also my passion, and believe that health is wealth, and one should never take their function for granted. The human body demands a fine balance to truly function with ease, and learning to just ‘be’ and live mindfully everyday is vital for our bodily functions and to heal and regenerate. My goal for every patient is to have a positive and effective influence on their overall mental and physical well being and function; through Physiotherapy, focused rehabilitation, and Mindfulness coaching.”
Catherine Williams is a Health, Wellness, and Nutritional Coach, PT, Pilates Instructor and currently studying BA (Hons) in Psychology. “Having coached a wide spectrum of people through holistic fitness and health modalities for over 20 years, the practice of Mindfulness as been the most ethical, productive and healthy discovery of my life. I love that the focus is totally on personal experience, commitment and attention, there is no group path to follow, no pressure to find an epiphany...only the peaceful mind that takes me and my clients that calm clarity, that helps us swipe confusion and mental noise to the right. Mindfulness is never judgemental, it is accepting, and kind, and yet gently motivating.”
They realised that through helping their patients together, that the missing piece was coaching them through methods on how to improve stress level management; as we know the significance this can have on healing, digestion, mental health, weight loss, sleep, pain reduction - the list goes on. They both decided to study with Shamash Alidina in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher Training course, which is certified by the UK Holistic Therapies Institution.
The MBSR course, taught by Renee Knowles and Catherine Williams, is a condensed 4-week program, that was originally created by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979. This program is now taught throughout the world, supporting people with stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, alleviating stress-related medical conditions and much more. Each week is carefully designed to teach you the principles and practice of Mindfulness.
Since 1979 there has been a tremendous amount of research coming out of Harvard, UCLA, and other high ranking institutions providing us the insight into how this approach is helpful and how it not only works, but how it actually can change our brains for the better.
"Between stimulus and response there's a space, in that space lies our power to choose our response, in our response lies our growth and our freedom." - Viktor Frankl. Basically, there's a moment of choice before we react to stress and pain in life. However, for most of us, we're unaware of this space "between stimulus and response" because we get caught in habitual patterns of reacting to life.
The MBSR programme helps us become more aware of these habitual reactions and helps us relate to ourselves in a new way to interrupt this cycle and create more choice in life. For example choosing to react to a person who has just cut you off on the motorway in a different way than you may have done previously. Mindfulness can help teach you to be present in that moment, sitting in that space between stimulus and response. We then choose to take a few deep breaths instead, let our shoulders relax a bit, and even consider the unpleasant state the other driver must be in to be driving that way. Maybe we even wish him well, because if he was, he wouldn't be driving that way.
In doing the work of this programme, we hope that our participants begin to realise that they can break through ingrained habits that can hold them back from living a life that can be filled more of calm clarity, gratitude, kindness, and a curious awareness in stressful situations, that may have previously been the opposite.
