On April 29th, 2025, we proudly marked World Malaria Day with a dynamic and impactful webinar organized by the Khairazzad Humanitarian Organization and the University of Kordofan Medical Alumni Association, in collaboration with Omdurman Tropical Hospital.

Under the theme "Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria: Innovation, Awareness, and Community Action," we brought together passionate minds, experienced experts, and committed healthcare professionals to spotlight malaria in one of the most critical periods in Sudan's history.

From war zones to rural clinics, the message was clear:
Malaria can be defeated—with knowledge, resilience, and collaboration.

We were honored to hear from:
• Dr. Amel Swareldahab on malaria’s burden during conflict
• Dr. Fatima Altaher on FMOH diagnostic and treatment protocols
• Dr. Abulizz Hassan & Dr. Yousif Rabih on lessons learned from elimination efforts

With engaged participants, the event was more than a webinar—it was a call to action.

To our speakers, organizers, and every health hero fighting malaria on the frontlines: your work saves lives.

Uganda recently declared an outbreak of Sudan Ebola virus disease.

Here's what you need to know:
🔴 Sudan Ebola virus disease is a severe and often fatal illness in humans.
🟢 Case fatality rates in past outbreaks have ranged from 41% to 70%.
🟡 The incubation period ranges from 2 to 21 days.
🟠 In the absence of licensed vaccines and therapeutics, the public health risk is high.
🟣 Early intensive supportive treatment improves the chances of survival.

Sudan Ebola virus disease is typically characterized by 𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫. Other symptoms may include:

🔷 Fatigue
🔷 Abdominal pain
🔷 Sore throat
🔷 Myalgia (muscle pain)
🔷 Nausea & vomiting
🔷 Diarrhoea
🔷 Rash

Severe illness may include:

🔺 Hemorrhagic manifestations (e.g., bleeding from puncture sites)
🔺 Shock/hypotension
🔺 Multi-organ failure
🔺 Encephalopathy (brain dysfunction)

✅ Description: Increased jugular venous pressure (JVP) during inspiration instead of the normal decrease.

💡 Indicates: Constrictive pericarditis or severe right-sided heart failure.

📚 Clinical Tip: Always differentiate from JVP elevation in other conditions, and assess in a relaxed, semi-recumbent position.
