In Memory of Dr. Abdullah 😢.!
The last time I spoke with Dr. Abdullah was in the final week of October. After the fall of Afghanistan, we had lost touch with many of our colleagues. He called me, and we talked for more than half an hour about the difficulties he had lived through, the challenges he had overcome, and the hopes he still carried for the future.
During that call, he encouraged me to prepare for my exams. He also told me about his own success in Finland
-how learning the language had been difficult, yet with the support of his wife and children he had managed to move forward and earn a new place for himself. His voice was filled with determination and hope.
Yesterday, a mutual friend asked if I had any recent news about him. I said the last time we had spoken was three months ago. In my heart I worried he had just stepped into a new chapter of his life and was still struggling with the language barriers.
He was a talented and hardworking physician, a compassionate and responsible leader calm, trustworthy, and always ready to help others.
I had told him that if I travel to the Netherlands next May for a medical program, he and our other colleagues should join us. He smiled and said, "Of course. We will meet all our colleagues again."
Today, that simple sentence keeps echoing in my mind.
Note : He served as the Director of Wazir Akbar Khan Specialized Hospital. He completed his PhD in Japan, and after the fall of Afghanistan, he relocated to Finland. After passing the required examinations, he had recently begun his work as a surgeon there.
