Meat consumption stayed approximately the same, but refined carbohydrates and seed oils skyrocketed.
Over 65% of the adult population in the U.S. have at least one preventable chronic health condition, including diabetes, obesity, hypertension, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome. All of these diseases are, in most cases, a consequence of dietary misbehavior. Unfortunately, the typical stigma of the potential root causes for these events doesn't work as, e.g., to***co use massively decreased, and meat consumption stayed approximately the same.
The only relevant nutrition parameter that drastically increased is processed plant products: Refined sugar, processed starches, and industrial seed oils. These are the apparent contributors to these severe outcomes.
The average life expectancy increased during these years also, which is a valid counterargument. But unfortunately, the devil is in the detail as fewer people are dying at birth because of higher sanitary standards, and therefore, the average life expectancy becomes a fragile parameter. Also, it's questionable if you should value life expectancy over life quality, from my perspective. Living as the beta version of yourself wouldn't be my preferred choice: Let me know your viewpoint on this in the comments.
