I have just spent a few days with my parents who are 89 & 92 years young. Mum has been going to gym since she was in her 70s.
Dad still plays bowls twice a week but Mum wanted me to show Dad a few exercises to maintain his balance.
These are the exercises we went through, Dad held onto the bench for the first 5 and he did 10 of each exercise:
1. Heel raises.
2. Toe raises.
3. Stand on one leg and swing or step the other leg to the side alternatively.
4. Standing on one leg, step forward & back with the other leg then change leg.
5. Bicep curls with weight in each hand (it can be a can of corn/tomatoes/beans etc).
6. Holding a weight stir the pot clockwise then anti clockwise.
Ten of each will assist with maintaining balance as you age.
