For so long pregnant women have been told to “slow down” “rest” and stay away from intensive exercise including weight training and high intensity cardio..

But what we are starting to understand is that being active whether it’s starting from scratch of continuing on from pre-pregnancy, exercise is not only safe, but has a range of benefits for the health and wellbeing of mum and bub.

Before participating in some recent professional development (PD), I knew that the amount of pregnant women participating in regular physical activity was low, but I was genuinely shocked at how few mums-to-be are meeting the recommendations… 😳

Being active during your pregnancy doesn’t have to be difficult. It can be sustainable and do-able with the right guidance and support! 💕

You probably called it being “double-jointed” as a kid…
But for some, it’s a little more than just a cool party trick.

Joint hypermobility means your joints move beyond the normal range— and for some, it has ongoing challenges that can affect daily life in many ways.

HSD (Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder) isn’t just having flexible joints, It also involves:
😣 Chronic pain
😴 Fatigue
🤕 Frequent injuries
😶 Anxiety
😖 Digestive issues

Because of all this, many people with HSD avoid exercise—often because they’re afraid they’ll do something wrong or make things worse.

Strength training is one of the most important things you can do to build the muscles that support your joints, improve stability and reduce your risk of injury.

Do you remember her? 🥺

The version of you who had space to breathe before every minute felt spoken for?
The one that could get through the day without endless cups of coffee and mental breakdowns?
The one that felt confident in her skin, before sports bras and sweatpants became a lifestyle?
The one that didn’t carry the weight of needing to “have it all together” all the time??

Well, I know she’s still there. 🩷
And I think she deserves a seat at the table again!

This isn’t about chasing an old body.
It’s about finding your way back to you.
Somewhere beneath the to-do lists, groceries, nappies, school runs, laundry and work.

Horizon’s Unley Studio is officially open! 🤩

And what better way to break it in than with a big group session for my (big) little Horizon community?
It was so much fun - at least, I thought so anyway 😮‍💨😂

But don’t worry, most sessions here aren’t like that.
When you step into the studio, it’s just you and me. There’s no crowds, no guesswork, just a space where you can train without stress.
No one’s watching, you don’t have to figure it out alone, and if you need to bring your little one, you absolutely can! 🥰

But most importantly, no judgment, no distractions, no self-doubt. Just you, working on you 💗

✨ Horizon’s Official Opening Day ✨

How fitting that today, on International Women’s Day, I officially opened the doors to this studio - A space that’s been built entirely for women…
For the mums who give so much to everyone else and deserve time for themselves.
For the full-time workers who need movement to reset and recharge.
For the uni students who use exercise to relieve stress and boost productivity.
For the women stepping into a gym for the first time or returning after some time away.
For all the women still trying to find themselves, love themselves, respect themselves and see just how CAPABLE they are. ✨

A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring this space to life. From renovations to this morning’s celebrations, the support from each of you means the world to me and I can’t wait for this next chapter with you all! 🥹🩷

8 weeks is all it takes; it’s getting started that is for many people the hardest part. Especially if you’ve been feeling stuck for so long.😣

Use this as the motivation you need to get started or as a reminder not to give up.

And of course, ask for help if you need it.
Everybody starts somewhere and you deserve to feel good about yourself! 🩷

If you’re worried about your fertility with PCOS, the first thing I recommend (before opting for supplements, magic “fertility” teas and the more expensive medical treatments) is making sure you’re doing the following 4 things DAILY!

We are quite literally what we eat; you know, just like we said when we were children! 🤣 🥕🐮 🍳

If you’re not continuously providing your body the nutrients it needs, you aren’t setting yourself up for success.

🌟 Nutrient Spotlight: Zinc 🌟

Zinc is an absolute powerhouse nutrient for women.

Deficiencies can significantly impact immune function, reproductive health, digestion, as well as the health outcomes of you and your baby before, during & after pregnancy.

Prioritising zinc in your diet is crucial for maintaining overall wellness and supporting all of your bodily functions (Especially as a female) 🩷

Have you ever been told that carbs are bad for you, especially if you have insulin-resistant PCOS?

While high GI foods can spike insulin levels and worsen your PCOS symptoms, low GI options can do the opposite. They improve insulin sensitivity, balance your hormones, and reduce those 3 PM sugar cravings.

Instead of cutting carbs completely from your diet, knowing when to choose them and when to opt for something else can be incredibly beneficial! 🙌🏽

For years, we’ve been told to “cut down on fat” and “opt for low-fat alternatives.”
While this advice can be beneficial, it’s not always ideal for women’s health, particularly when it comes to balancing hormones. 🙃

Two common traps I see women fall into, especially in the health and fitness world, are:

•Severely restricting their daily fat intake
• Only consuming low/no-fat foods (particularly dairy)

And this can be problematic because fats are essential for producing female s*x hormones and maintaining the overall health of the menstrual cycle. 🩸

Swipe to see some easy food swaps you can make to improve and help balance your hormones! 🩷
