Jono, founder of The Whisperer Team, was invited onto a podcast this week.

Vogliamoci Bene is presented by Mario Corena at Radio Italia 531 in Adelaide, South Australia.

He's doing a lot of great work in this space of su***de prevention and is aiming to get a major initiative for sufferers of eating disorders off the ground.

We discussed how GLASS EMPTY and The Whisperer Team came to be and where to from here. Some of the golden nuggets I've gained and what have been some of the learnings and challenges so far.

BREAKING: Sharon Osbourne “torches” Mark Zuckerberg and other billionaires right to their faces for their greed — and then proves it with action

At a glittering charity gala in Manhattan, Sharon Osbourne, television icon and outspoken philanthropist, stunned a room full of the world’s wealthiest elites by doing what few would dare — speaking truth to unimaginable power.

The event was meant to honor Osbourne for her humanitarian efforts, but instead of delivering a polite acceptance speech, she looked directly at billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk and said, her tone sharp and unwavering:

“If you can spend billions building rockets and metaverses, you can spend millions feeding children. If you call yourself a visionary, prove it — not with money, but with mercy.”

The ballroom fell silent. Cameras caught Zuckerberg staring at his table, expressionless. But Osbourne didn’t stop there. She went on to announce that she was donating $8 million from her television and foundation earnings to fund housing and mental health programs for struggling families in Los Angeles.

Her final words hit like thunder:

“Greed isn’t strength — compassion is.”

The Glass Empty Signal

In the hush between conversations,
where worry hides behind a smile,
a quiet cue is placed upon the table—
a glass, turned empty for a while.

No shout, no cry for rescue,
no trembling words to say I’m not okay.
Just the softest sign of needing someone
to notice the night has slipped sideways.

It isn’t weakness, nor defeat,
but a lantern lit in a gentle way—
a message whispered without speaking,
Could you stay with me today?

And when another sees it, truly sees it,
they don’t rush in with noise or fear;
they sit, they breathe, they share the moment,
making space for someone dear.

For sometimes all a soul requires
is presence warm and understanding,
a hand that steadies, a heart that listens,
a friend who comes without demanding.

So here’s to signals softly given,
to courage wrapped in simple form,
to the glass left empty on the table—
a beacon in an unseen storm.

And here’s to those who answer it,
with kindness quiet, steady, true;
for in the smallest acts of noticing,
lives are held—and carried through.

A lighthouse doesn't search for ships, it warms sailors of the rocks ahead.

I believe a Whisperer doesn't search for lost souls, they warn people they're approaching dangerous territory and by showing up in these moments of distress, they shine their light ... to help someone avoid disaster.

Yesterday I learned that a dear lady had passed away, just last month.

Her name was Sue and she was the publican for the Tumbarumba Hotel in New South Wales. She had battled with su***de ideation on at least one occasion.

In 2020 I jumped in the family car with my 14yo son and traveled across the country from Adelaide to meet her and husband Greg and their awesome team of pub stuff, along with some friendly locals.

They had seen my work on Great Aussie Pubs website (www.greataussiepubs.com.au) and that I was offering a Su***de Prevention Checklist for publicans and bar staff so they knew what sayings to look out for when people were in distress.

We also held a Pubs Supporting People Day, pushing tables together instead of keeping them apart. Essentially disobeying the 1.5m social isolation rules that Governments of the day were trying to pass down.

We did it in order to create more community during those difficult times.

It was something she wanted to do for the town and the pub. A pub that was a bedrock of support during the difficult times of fires and floods in the area in 2019/20.

Sue, Greg and the team supported their community during those tough times. In the same way pubs today can support their community.

"When I becomes We, even Illness becomes Wellness" (a quotation attributed to Malcom X). And so when someone presents with su***de distress, a conversation can help that person to feel safe again. That is when we can bring wellness back to someone's life.

Motivator Tony Robbins says "There's a reason we suffer - we are focused on ourselves and the human mind likes to fix problems. When you trade expectations for appreciation, you find gratitude. And gratitude and suffering cannot co-exist.

"Noticing the grace that's in your life in some way is what stops us from suffering."

So, when we sit with someone who is experiencing su***de distress and don't try fixing them, you mirror to them what they need to know - that their and your presence is enough and being seen and heard and validated is a part of the healing journey.

All over this great brown land you'll find pubs filled with character and characters. Not just a place to go for a drink, they've become the heart of the community, part of Australian folklore, myth, history and campfire songs. They're Great Aussie Pubs
