A special thank you to our incredible staff who don’t always get the chance to take a break. Your dedication and care mean so much to our community.

We’re also looking forward to celebrating Greek Orthodox Easter next weekend and sharing more special moments together.

This week our St Basil’s community celebrated Greek National Day together at Croydon Park, St Peters and our Plateia program.

Events included Greek cultural activities, traditional Greek food, live music and of course dancing!

A very big thank you to Dr Alexandra Theodoropoulou, the Consulate-General of Greece, Adelaide and community organisations that supported these events, including Adelaide High School students.

We all know how important butterflies are to our environment by helping to pollinate and create healthy gardens.

This week Aegean Village residents released butterflies into our gardens that were hand raised by our nurse Melissa. We plan to raise our own butterflies and residents from our Men’s Club have been busy helping prepare by creating our very own ‘butterfly homes’.

We can’t wait for our lovely new gardens to be filled with beautiful butterflies!

A big thank you to Harry and John and the team at the West Adelaide SC who have stepped up to assist us by generously providing their state-of-the-art clubrooms as a temporary training venue for our staff following the Church Hall fire at Croydon Park.

When we say ‘training’ we mean the educational type, although who knows… we may develop our ball skills while we are there!

The Kilburn based club fosters the spirit of teamwork and community, and their support of the Greek community and our residents through staff education is another example of their community values and generosity.

Teddy the pony visited our St Peters home this week for a 'pat and chat'. Our residents loved spending time with Teddy and it brought back many happy memories for them.

Today is Tsiknopempti 'Smokey Thursday', where our residents and Plateia participants enjoyed delicious charcoal BBQs and shared celebrations.

Our Plateia program is up and running for 2026 and we recently held a New Year’s Blessing and cutting of the Vasilopita to celebrate!

Today we were delighted to welcome some very special guests to our St Peters home; including the Metropolitan Irenaios of Florina, Prespes and Eordaia, as well as the Mayor of Florina, Vasilis Giannakis, accompanied by his wife and their entourage.

Our guests from Greece along with Father John Choraitis and Father Stavros Psaromatis, had the opportunity to meet with our residents, families and staff.

It was an honour to host them and share the work we do within our St Basil's community.

Yesterday may have been our hottest Australia Day on record, but our residents stayed cool and celebrated with music, shared stories and sweet treats such as lamingtons and ‘Aussie’ cup-cakes.

A big thank you to everyone that joined in and shared the day with our St Basils' family!

Last night, a fire occurred at the Greek Orthodox St Nectarios Church Hall next to our Croydon Park facility.

We’re incredibly thankful that all residents and staff are safe, that no evacuations were needed, and that our facility did not sustain any building damage.

Our sincere thanks to the Metropolitan Fire Service and our wonderful staff for their care and quick response.

We also extend a heartfelt thank you to our Croydon Park families for their support and understanding during the incident — your calmness and cooperation meant a great deal to our team.

Our thoughts are with the St Nectarios Parish and Community at this time 💙🙏

St Basil’s is proud to be one of the major sponsors of this year’s Glenelg Greek Festival, Theophany – Blessing of the Waters.

We had a great opportunity to connect with the community, answering questions and sharing how we support people to live well at our St Basil’s Homes or through our Plateia program.

As part of the celebrations, Father Peter blessed our residents to commemorate the beginning of the new year and the Blessing of the Waters.
