Set up and run by an educator and researcher who herself is on the autistic spectrum (Aspergers), the aim of the consultancy is to facilitate the achievement of children and adults on the spectrum by provided up to date and accurate information and support strategies. Information is research based and strategies have been reviewed by adults and young people in the autistic community to ensure they are helpful and will not cause distress or stress. Healthy Possibilities supports families, schools, workplaces and other organizations to support people on the autistic spectrum (from birth to adulthood). Whether your child is in their first years, at school or an adult, if they are on the autistic spectrum it can be difficult to find the support to help you ensure your child reaches their potential. Healthy Possibilities was set up to empower families, schools, people on the autistic spectrum and others to work together to support autistic children and adults to achieve. With a background in education, Emma is passionate about the need to educate others to ensure that people on the autistic spectrum are able to not only achieve their potential, but to live happy lives. Emma is a skilled and experienced special needs teacher and consultant. Having completed her doctoral research into the effective teaching of students on the autistic spectrum in mainstream education, Emma is passionate about the ability of autistic children and young people to gain skills and knowledge. Emma also has a Masters in special education, a BEd hons as well as Montessori pre-school and school teaching qualifications. She has worked in pre-schools, schools, and as an educational consultant and advisor in Europe and New Zealand, including for the NZ Ministry of Education. During her doctoral research Emma attended a number of presentations around recent research into Aspergers and women, from both Europe and Australia. It was then that Emma realized her insights into the students on the autistic spectrum came from an understanding of how these students understood and interacted with the world, rather than academic knowledge of autism. Following on from her own diagnosis of Aspergers, Emma developed a far greater self-awareness and a passion to support others on the autistic spectrum to achieve their potential. Emma's drivers are a belief in the innate potential of all people on the autistic spectrum and the knowledge that anxiety, stress and a misunderstanding of autism are the barriers to autistics achieving. If children and young people with autism are given the skills and strategies to enable them to live well as they grow up, their natural anxiety will be less of a barrier. http://healthypossibilities.net
