Did you know? Sudden Hearing Loss Is a Medical Emergency 🚨

If your hearing suddenly drops, especially in one ear, don’t wait it out. This could be Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSNHL), a condition affecting the inner ear or auditory nerve.

🕒 Research shows treatment is most effective when started within the first 72 hours.

Signs to watch for:
• Sudden muffled or “blocked” hearing
• Ringing in the ear
• Dizziness or imbalance

Your next steps:
✔️ Seek urgent medical care (GP or Emergency)
✔️ Request ENT referral
✔️ Book a hearing test as soon as possible

Reminder: ONDC Hearing Specialists offers urgent hearing assessments for sudden hearing concerns.

🌍🦻World Hearing Day 2026: From Communities to Classrooms

This year, the theme is “From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children.” Healthy hearing is essential for children to learn, communicate, and reach their full potential.

Preventing avoidable hearing loss and identifying issues early can make a real difference. For example:

➜ A child struggling to hear in class may fall behind in reading or speech development.

➜ Early detection of an ear infection or mild hearing loss can prevent long-term learning difficulties.

➜ Teachers and parents who understand hearing challenges can provide support that helps children participate fully in lessons and activities.

Communities and schools are natural places to spot these challenges early. By integrating hearing checks into school programs and child health services, we can help children hear clearly, learn confidently, and thrive socially and academically.

At ONDC Hearing Specialists, we support families with early assessments, personalised guidance, and solutions that help children succeed every day. Because hearing care today creates opportunities for tomorrow.

Love Adelaide’s Festivals? Protect Your Ears! 🎶

From WOMADelaide to the Adelaide Fringe, our city comes alive with music, art, and energy. But all that fun can come at a cost: prolonged exposure to loud sound can cause hearing loss or tinnitus, and it’s often preventable.

Top Tips for Safe Listening:

• Use high-fidelity or custom earplugs, enjoy music without losing clarity
• Take listening breaks to give your ears a rest
• Keep a safe distance from speakers to reduce volume exposure
• Monitor your ears: ringing, muffled hearing, or fatigue are warning signs

Adelaide is alive with culture, music, and arts, and summer and autumn in South Australia mean festival season is in full swing.

Over the weekend ONDC Hearing Specialists had the opportunity to attend the Hearing Business Alliance Audiology Business Seminar in Brisbane.

The event brought together independent Audiology leaders from across Australia to explore key topics including business strategy, leadership, operational efficiency, marketing, and enhancing patient experience. It was a valuable opportunity to gain practical insights into building sustainable, future-focused hearing care practices.

It was an excellent few days focused on the business side of Audiology and we’re looking forward to implementing what we’ve learned to further strengthen our clinics, support our team, and continue delivering high-quality, client-centered care to our community.

Thank you to the organisers and presenters for an engaging and informative seminar!
