“On the first day of Christmas my EP gave to me…” 🎶

It is the first day of our “12 days of (Exercise) Christmas” - are you ready to play along at home?

Day 1 - Sled races

Today’s activity is a Santa sled race!
In the video, you’ll see Lucy and Jacinta racing each other on scooter boards through a taped maze.
Don’t have a scooter board at home? That’s okay! Use anything with wheels — or get creative and imagine your very own magical sled.
Who are you going to race today?

Stay tuned for more fun and festive movement ideas over the next 12 days!

Exercise Physiology can play a meaningful role in supporting people with Down syndrome — helping build movement skills, confidence, and lifelong health.

Because individuals with Down syndrome can be more prone to challenges such as low muscle tone, joint instability, reduced cardiovascular fitness, weight management difficulties, and heart or respiratory concerns, targeted movement support is especially valuable.

Through fun, tailored, evidence-based programs, Exercise Physiologists help improve:
• Strength and muscle tone
•Balance and coordination
•Cardiovascular fitness
•Weight management and metabolic health
•Endurance and activity tolerance
•Overall independence and participation

Exercise Physiology can these outcomes in a structured and enjoyable way, to support long-term health outcomes, reduce secondary complications, and empower individuals to move with confidence and engage fully in the activities that matter most — at home, at school, and in the community.

Pushing through the last few weeks of the school year (and the year 😵‍💫) like… 💥😅

Things might feel big, messy, or a little chaotic right now.

We tailor our EP sessions to meet everyone exactly where they’re at — especially during these end-of-year weeks with lower energy, bigger emotions and busy little brains.

We keep things achievable, playful and fun, because Exercise Physiology doesn’t have to be serious — sometimes progress looks like games, giggles and big colourful obstacles! 🎉💪🌈

Here’s to finishing the year strong! 💪

Hypotonia — sometimes called low muscle tone — means the muscles are slower to contract and struggle to maintain strength over time.

This can make movement and posture more challenging, leading to reduced strength, joint instability, delayed motor skills, and even lower motivation or attention in some cases.

💪 Exercise Physiologists can make a big difference. Through gentle, targeted exercise programs, we help improve muscle tone, strength, and endurance — supporting better posture, coordination, and confidence in movement.

With the right support, individuals with hypotonia can gain more independence, enjoy greater participation in daily life, and experience an improved quality of life. 🌟

Did you know that joint hypermobility isn’t just about being flexible?

Hypermobility is a connective tissue condition that allows joints to move beyond the normal range. While some flexibility can be helpful for activities like dance or gymnastics, excessive movement can cause joint instability, leading to pain, fatigue, and frequent aches or injuries.

Over time, this instability can make even everyday activities — like walking, lifting, or sitting at a desk — more difficult.

💪 That’s where Exercise Physiologists come in.
We design individualised exercise programs that strengthen the muscles supporting hypermobile joints. This helps improve joint control, reduce pain, and support better posture and movement patterns.

With the right exercise approach, people with hypermobility can feel stronger, more confident, and better able to do the things they love — safely and comfortably.

🌟 Physical Literacy Week 🌟

This week is Physical Literacy Week! and at Achieving Abilities we’re celebrating with daily movement challenges — and we want YOU to join in too!

👉 Follow along in our stories each day to discover a new activity that you can do at home!

But what is physical literacy?
Physical literacy is all about developing the skills, confidence, and motivation to move your body in different ways throughout life — whether that’s running, climbing, dancing, balancing, or playing. It’s not just about fitness or sport; it’s about helping children (and adults!) feel capable and excited to be active every day.

When we build physical literacy, we’re helping kids develop stronger bodies, better coordination, and the confidence to take on new challenges — setting them up for lifelong health, participation, and fun!

Let’s get moving together and celebrate all the amazing ways our bodies can move!

Here’s a behind-the-scenes moment from between takes that we love too much not to share! 🎬 🐺

While filming some content, our team and clients took a quick break to play “What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?” — a fun reminder of the joy movement can bring.

Even spontaneous games like this support important developmental skills such as coordination, reaction time, listening, and turn-taking, while also encouraging social connection and confidence.

We love seeing these moments of laughter and learning come together — both on and off camera! ❤️💚💙
