On Thursday we had our inaugural Riverina OT planning day. 🙌

We began the day with a breath work class courtesy of then stopped by for a coffee hit on the way back to the office ☕️

It was great to have all our staff from both Wagga and Albury in the one room, we would like to extend a big thank you to for catering morning tea and lunch🤤

✨We would like to extend a warm welcome to Allied Health Assistant (AHA) Megan! ✨

Megan is about to finish her Associates Degree in Health and Medical Science with an interest in human anatomy. She has also completed placements in an NDIS paediatric setting, mostly with ASD diagnosis.

Megan enjoys the versatility and flexibility of being an AHA, no two days are the same and its great being a useful asset to the whole team. Megan enjoys getting out and about in the community and being creative and developing useful resources.

In her spare time, Megan likes to camp and explore the high country. She also like to look after her plants at home, propagating them, and watching them grow. 🌿

To celebrate International Women's Day, we were lucky to have Perri from ochre naturopathy come in and present on "The Stress Response and Nutritional Strategies for Resilience" to our Team.

A perfect day for a walk/run, it was great to see the local community turning up for such a fantastic event 🫶

🌟 What is SIL in the NDIS? 🌟
Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides 24/7 support in a shared or individual home to help you build skills, stay safe, and live as independently as possible.
🌟 How OTs support SIL:
🏡 Assess daily living skills & support needs
📝 Provide functional reports for SIL funding
🤝 Recommend the right support ratio + model
🔧 Suggest assistive tech & home modifications
📘 Work with your provider to ensure your supports match your goals

If you're thinking about SIL and want to understand what supports could help you live more independently, an OT assessment is a great place to start!

✨ We would like to extend a warm welcome to our New Graduate Occupational Therapist Gemma! ✨

Gemma will be working in the Support at Home and NDIS Space within Riverina OT.

Gemma graduated from CSU Albury completing a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy. In her placements Gemma gained a special interest in supporting community members living to the fullest in their homes, from enhancing their skills providing home modifications, to prescribing equipment!

Gemma enjoys the broad scope that OT has to offer and that as an OT, she is able to think outside of the box and come up with a solution that is tailored to the individual and their goals.

Outside of work, Gemma enjoys playing tennis with her boyfriend and friends, reading on her kindle and taking care of her two cheeky ginger cats. 🐈

❗With the hot weather not yet behind us this is a friendly reminder to take extra care of your splint! ❗

It is important to understand that heat in any form will soften the thermoplastic. This includes a hot car or anywhere in the sun on these particularly warm days. ☀

If your splint has deformed due to the heat, make sure you book in an see your hand therapist so that they can ensure your splint continues to fit correctly.
