The start of the new year can be a gentle reminder to check in with yourself and reflect on what you want your days to feel like.

As you reflect on your goals, you might want to focus on what helps you feel more independent and supported. This may look like creating new routines that suit your lifestyle more, wanting to build your confidence in everyday tasks or looking to bring a sense of stability into your day.

Your goals can be small, flexible, and be shaped around what matters most to you. What’s important is that they support your independence, wellbeing, and ensure you're in control of all your decisions.

What is Support Coordination?

If you’re new to the NDIS, or your plan feels a bit overwhelming, Support Coordination is like having someone in your corner, walking alongside you to make everything easier.

At Social Connection Supports, our Support Coordinators will:

• Walk through your NDIS plan with you and turn your goals into clear, realistic steps

• Connect you with the right providers and supports that actually fit your needs

• Assist with problem-solving and communicating with the NDIS

• Check in to make sure your supports remain aligned with your goals and choices

• Provide a collaborative, person-centred approach with clarity, respect, and genuine partnership

Support Coordination is a capacity-building support funded in your NDIS plan it’s there to help you feel confident, connected, and in control of your supports.

Social Connection Supports was started as a way to reconnect with my community. To use my passion to support, connect and empower our valued people in the community, their families and other important people in their lives, to give them a voice and encourage them to make decisions about their own lives.

Social connection is about having a sense of belonging and having a social bond with friends, family or others in our community and social networks. Social connection has a significant impact on our lives, our physical and mental health, wellbeing and resilience. Strong social connections reduce the feelings of lonliness and isolation.

It is important for me that I work together as a team with the person and their family, this is because it is not my life and I am not here to tell them what to do. I am here to provide the information, the tools, and empower them to build their capacity, to make decisions about their own life and to live the life they choose.

In my time working in the disabilty industry I have unfortunately been witness to our most vulnerable people being seen as $$, told what they should do and supported by people that don't have the capacity or have lost sight of the reason they are in this industry. As a community we need to do better. Social Connection Supports is about changing that narrative.

There are negatives like any industry but there are some amazing people doing amazing things with people in our community and beyond. That empower and advocate for their people and those around them, to listen to them, give them a voice and build them up to live a life they choose and deserve. I am privileged to say that these wonderful people are part of my network of friends and colleagues.

Starting with Support Coordination, my hope for Social Connection Supports is to build a community, to work with and mentor like minded people with the same values to grow and make a positive impact in our community, to promote a sense of belonging and social connection.
