We are trying new glazes and new forms and while they are not perfect it about the making experience not the end product.

As artisans we have been busy making new designs, inspired by nature and the artisans of the Pilliga. Husband is a Tamworth boy. We bought our first house and renovated it in Tamworth 30+ years ago. We purchased a pottery lamp shade for our kitchen. It was handmade from Pilliga Pottery. We hung it in our kitchen over the island bench. We were always so impressed by this lampshade, how the light would shine through the punched out holes giving the kitchen a dream like atmosphere of stars 🌟 glimmering at night. In 2023 I had the opportunity to visit the Pilliga pottery barn. With the cost of fuel ⛽️ today this would be out of the question. Once again I purchased a piece of their beautiful pottery. A vessel they described as a potato storage unit. It was too pretty for potatoes. Dean has it in his massage clinic as a show piece. The vessel had a sweet blue wren on it. Then I remembered that the pottery barn had a cafe called the Blue Wren Bush Cafe. Just a beautiful place way outback west in NSW in the middle of nowhere. Artisans earthing themselves, being at one with nature and creating beauty with clay. I hope our take on their blue wren does this memory justice.

Imperfect cups make the best cactus 🌵 cups. My blind husband throws these vessels and I get the privilege of glazing them.

Blind husband throws these vessels and I glaze them. We have started a whole new series of blue wren inspo as a request from my bestie Debi. Although this plate is not for her as it has yellow on it…I sure it will go to someone who loves this combo. # The Art Therapist Nellie

Who doesn’t need a cuddle cup in winter? With the cold weather coming we are making some of the cutest little cuddle cups to keep hands and hearts warm. My blind husband started throwing vessels less than a year ago and now I get to glaze them.

Couple goals right here. My blind husband has discovered pottery in the last 6 months. I have always loved painting so we are now creating our own world of joy collaborating together. These vessels are now ready for the top glaze and then final firing. Stay tuned for the finished product.

Art therapy is not about making aesthetically pleasing art forms. It’s about the felt sense and how to process trauma in a somatic way.
