Now Live: Learning from Our Ancestors as we Move to Unknown Worlds with Yalmay Yunupingu.

In this final talk from the Social Good Summit series, Yalmay shares a Yolŋu perspective on a world that was once known, balance and guided by ancient knowledge systems - and how colonisation has disrupted that harmony.

She asks a simple but powerful question: what can we learn form the ancestors to protect our unique world today?

This is a talk about listening, responsibility, and remembering what has always been known.

📺 🌍 Now live: Changing Systems from Within: Indigenous Leadership and Courage

In this powerful talk, Benson Saulo, a proud Wemba Wemba and Gunditjmara man, shares a transformational message about courage, identity, and Indigenous leadership, and what it truly takes to create change from within systems.

Benson reframes courage not as being the loudest voice in the room, but as being wholehearted, persistent, and committed to something bigger than yourself. Drawing on Indigenous wisdom and lived experience, he introduces the idea of the disciplined non-conformist - someone grounded in identity and purpose, working within systems to create meaningful change.

📺🩺Why Language, Country and Health Are Connected with Veronica Perrurle Dobson

In this powerful talk, Veronica Perrurle Dobson, an Eastern Arrernte linguist and educator, shares why caring for language and Country is essential for the health and wellbeing of people and future generations🌿.

Drawing on knowledge passed down from her grandparents, Veronica explains how documenting language protects culture, and how environmental imbalance including the spread of buffel grass has disrupted land, safety and community health in Central Australia.

She reminds us that when Country is unwell, people are unwell too and that true healing must recognise cultural knowledge alongside medical care.

We’ve now launched new series of TED-style conversations from the Social Good Summit - bringing together powerful voices to explore how Indigenous wisdom can help guide a more sustainable and just future.

In this discussion, Josh Gilbert shares a vision for regenerative agriculture grounded in Indigenous land management - restoring native grasslands, respecting cultural burning, and reimagining farming as a way to heal Country rather than extract from it 🚜🐄

By listening to and learning from Indigenous knowledge, Josh reminds us we can help Country, agriculture, and communities not just survive - but thrive 🌳🦘

If Country’s Unwell, We Feel It..

Veronica reminds us that when our landscapes shift - for example, with the spread of grasses like buffelgrass - it impacts far more than how the land looks. These changes affect how we move across Country, how safe we feel, and even our breathing and wellbeing when these plants seed or burn.

For First Nations peoples, our health has always been connected to land, culture and spirit. So when Country is thrown out of balance, we feel that imbalance deeply in our bodies, our emotions, and our sense of who we are. 🌾💛

Her message invites us to look beyond symptoms and recognise the full story of health: one that honours culture, story, and our relationship with the land beneath our feet.

💭 How do changes in your local environment affect your own sense of wellbeing?

Stay tuned - Veronica’s full presentation is coming soon, offering space to reflect, listen, and learn from her wisdom. ✨

Language Shapes How We See the World

Dr Joel Liddle reminds us that language is more than words - it’s the scaffolding of our culture, our rules, and our connections. Learning Arrernte gave him new eyes to see the world, showing how respect, kinship, and special names guide relationships and reduce conflict.

Through language, he found acceptance, guidance, and a sense of purpose - a way to truly connect with his culture and community 💛

💭 How has language shaped your view of the world?

Stay tuned - Dr Joel Liddle’s full presentation is coming soon, a chance to look back on his discussion and reflect on the insights shared.

Language Shapes Who We Are — We Don’t Want to Lose That!

Professor Yalmay Yunupingu reminds us that keeping culture and language alive is about growing children in two worlds - Yolŋu and Balanda.

She explains that they want their kids to be literate and numerate, just like any other children, but also deeply connected to their own world - Yirritja and Dhuwa 📚 🔢

The goal? Children who take the wisdom of their community into the classroom, not to become someone else, but to be truly themselves – Yoma 💛

💭 How are you helping to keep your language and culture alive?

Stay tuned - Professor Yalmay Yunupingu’s full presentation is coming soon, a chance to explore these insights further and be inspired!
