📚 Word of the Day: Kyphosis 📚
The word kyphosis has been bending through time for more than two millennia. From the Greek kyphos, meaning bent or hu**ed, it was used by Hippocrates to describe forward curvature of the upper spine. Centuries later, physicians revived the term to classify postural changes and spinal deformities - some linked to conditions like Pott’s disease.
Today, osteopaths use kyphosis to describe the normal thoracic curve - assessing when that curve becomes exaggerated and affects balance, movement, or breathing.
Language, like the spine, evolves - sometimes with a little curve of its own. 🌿💬
