A great way to cope with and sooth a busy mind is to spending some time outside in nature.

There is a growing body of evidence indicating contact with nature (parks, woodlands and beaches) is associated with better health and well-being. Something as simple as setting aside just 15 minutes a day to focus on yourself can be all you need to regain a sense of balance during a stressful time. A walk in a park gives you a chance to clear your mind, have your focus be on the present moment, and act as a type of meditation.

Bringing 'acceptance' to a situation is such a powerful strategy and can help to calm the mind. Is there anything you are resisting at the moment that is causing you to worry?

We are still living in uncertain times. This uncertainty can be difficult to plan for and cope with. Many people try and neutralise a perceived threat by engaging in the unhelpful process called ‘worry.’ We can unsuccessfully grapple with whatever the problem is to find a solution to the threat. However, this does not make us feel better but instead makes us feel worse. We can ask questions like, What is going to happen…? What is around the corner for me…? Should I be doing more…? Should I be doing less…? The lack of answers can lead to feelings of anger, aggression, and frustration. But there are things you can do to manage your fears and anxieties. You will notice a big difference in attitude and the way you feel when you increase your awareness and learn to accept the current situation and the uncertainty you feel. Here is a way you can bring accepance to the chaos and allow yourself to stop your innermost struggle:

Stop labelling an event as good or bad and instead see it for what it is. If we fight and resit what is happening it creates turbulence in our mind and heart. We need to come to terms with things as they are.

Here are three more helpful practices to enhance relationships.

How is your relationship coping under isolation?

Being with your partner all day every day is not something a relationship is built upon, so you may find you are struggling to adjust. Coronavirus is testing your relationship, but you can work through it. Earlier in the month we gave you a strategy to work into your isolation routine to strengthen your relationship. Here are three additional happiness guidelines for you to put into practice.

1. STOP THE CRITICISM
Lots of relationships are spoiled by repetitive negative behaviour such as nagging or criticism. A pattern begins to form so that as soon as one person does or says something, the other responds negatively. Try saying something out of context. When niggles arise between you or one is trying to control the other, say something silly or funny. Your partner will be so taken aback it will throw them – and it may even make them laugh. But most importantly, it will change the habits of communication between you.

2. THE CUDDLE TIME
Make time for just having a cuddle with no expectation of anything
further, and enjoy the closeness. Partners are often distracted by
what’s going on around them – by technology, sport, children, work, family or friends.

3. ALLOW YOURS AND OTHERS DREAMS
Encourage your partner to fulfil their dreams and ask them to allow
you to achieve yours, too. When you both feel free, you will both be happy!

To help us deal with this unique time, over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing some stratergies to enhance relationships. Here is the first one.

The coronavirus outbreak is leading to big changes in the way we live our everyday lives. Our relationships are hugely important to us just at a time when they are being placed under the most intense pressure.

Relationships are not built on the expectation that you’ll be spending all day, every day with that person. If you’re both working from home, with nowhere to go in the evenings, there’s a chance you may experience some friction. Perhaps it’s happening already?

This is perfectly normal, particularly given the increased stress we’re all under right now. But, as we could be in this predicament for a while yet, it’s worth taking some steps to ensure we get through this period with our relationships intact. We may even come out the other side stronger!

In the next couple of weeks I will be sharing some stratergies to enhance relationships. Here is the first one.

1. WRITE DOWN ALL THE POSITIVE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN
YOU AND YOUR PARTNER

Be interested in your partner and the people around you and appreciate their special qualities. Write a list of the positive differences between you, what each of you is good at and what you like doing. It will help you to understand each other better. Remember two people with different strengths make a better team!
