About Me

I’m Laura Day. I live in a beautiful country town in Australia. Some people say its cold here, I’d probably agree – winters do last longer than average and can be bitter cold, however with my condition this climate is a good fit. I started this blog to document my healing journey living with Lupus (sle). I was officially diagnosed with this condition in 2010, however I was showing symptoms for much longer. In my opinion conventional medical doctors are baffled by auto-immune conditions, and there is alot of confusion on how to treat it effectively. For the past 4 years I have followed the conventional medical route, taking a whole concoction of drugs including – Prednisone (steroids), Plaquenil (anti-malarial) and Methotrexate (chemotherapy drug). I have never been really happy putting nasty drugs into my body, but this was the only solution I was given to deal with my rashes and joint pain. I have been though 6 Rheumatologists hoping that they could suggest something other than medication for treatment. At the start I did feel some relief from the medication, but I was still worried about the long term effects of taking these drugs. I started looking for alternative treatment around 2 years after my diagnosis. I have tried – Naturopathy, Osteopathy, Kinesiology, Reiki, Acupuncture and Chinese herbs, plus a host of vitamins and herbal suppliants for my immune system from the health food shop. December 2014 marked the start of one of the biggest lupus flares I have had. I admitted myself to emergency twice within a week. Only to be given a high dose of steroids and more steroid cream, plus antibiotics to deal with the infection on my skin. Frustrated and fed up with the conventional medical approach, I started this blog to track my healing journey through alternative treatments. I know I am a long way off, but i have hope and faith that one day my illness will no longer afflict me. There are still many alternative health avenues to explore, I plan to document my trials and triumphs and hopefully inspire other fellow sufferers to do the same. I welcome you to join me on this self healing journey…

A very interesting study -- Does anyone else use lavender to relax?...

I am definitely having a epsom salt bath with lavender oil 2night & going to try and use it daily to help my anxiety

In a double-blind study, lavender oil worked as well as the valium-like drug lorazepam (Ativan) for relief of persistent anxiety, though there are concerns about estrogenic effects.

I have been finding it really hard to stick to my psychologists / rest break & daily pacing plan.. I have so much going on in my mind and once i get an idea in my head i have to action it then and there! Its so frustrating... Im aware what i am doing is adding stress and not good for my recovery.. But i just cant stop myself! I know its my sensitiveity to steroids thats making me like this, but i feel that i might have now built a tolerence to the benzos they have given me to counteract the pred high.. Heres hoping the renal specialist gives me the go ahead to drop down further 2mo!

Thanks for the link Robyn - I know I wish it had never got to this point but I am doing the best with what treatment options I had to choose. Which was chemo or potential kidney failure. I truly believe I am feeling much less of the "side effects" because I am being diligent with what is going into my body - thank you for your guidance... Empower Total Health
