What’s typical around 12 months?
By around their first birthday, many children are beginning to show some exciting communication milestones.
They can often:
👂 Understand around 10 words
👋 Respond to their name
💛 Recognise greetings and gestures like “hi” and “bye-bye”
👩👦 Know a few familiar people and objects (like “mummy”, “blankie”, or “teddy”)
👀 Make eye contact to connect with others
When it comes to speaking, children are often starting to:
🗣️ Use sounds, gestures, and a few words
🎶 Continue to babble
🔊 Copy different sounds and noises they hear
Every child develops at their own pace, but these early signs show that your little one is learning to connect and communicate!
