Postural support seating provides significant clinical benefits for individuals with neurological conditions.

• Improves trunk stability to reduce fatigue and support upright alignment

• Enhances upper limb control for eating, writing and functional tasks

• Assists with pressure redistribution to reduce skin breakdown risk

• Promotes safer swallowing and respiratory function through optimal positioning

• Reduces falls risk by improving sitting balance and transfers

• Supports attention and participation by minimising physical strain

Appropriate seating is not just about comfort ~ it directly impacts safety, function and quality of life

So… what does an OT actually do?” 🤔
I get asked this all the time.

Today looked like 👇
🖐️ Upper limb therapy – supporting strength, coordination and functional use

🧠 Cognitive rehabilitation – working on attention, memory and problem-solving

🦽 Equipment assessment & prescription – commodes and wheelchairs to optimise safety, positioning and independence

🍳 Cooking-based therapy - building real-world skills, sequencing and confidence in the kitchen

Different settings, different skills ✨
Same goal = supporting people to participate more fully and independently in their everyday lives

Stroke care shouldn’t be a lottery. 🧠💔
Stroke recovery doesn’t end when you leave the hospital.

Sadly, new data shows only 35% of stroke survivors are getting the follow-up care they need - meaning many are missing out on vital support for their recovery.

If you or someone you love is finding things harder after a stroke -with memory, fatigue, or daily activities -please reach out.
OT can make a real difference in helping you rebuild confidence and independence. 🌿💪🏽

Bean there, done that. Now waiting for someone to help stroke patients and survivors recover. ⌚

Stroke care is in a dire state. Not enough people are getting timely stroke treatment, and dwindling numbers are receiving appropriate aftercare.

Too many people face a 'postcode lottery' when it comes to getting a clot-busting treatment—the kind that can dramatically reduce the chance of being left with a disability.

And just over a third of patients are getting the recommend aftercare they both need and deserve.

As a result, thousands of stroke survivors are missing out on vital support to help them recover, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Every stroke patient should receive a review six months after their stroke to discuss their health and ongoing needs. But new data from 2024/25 shows that only 35% of patients received this review, the lowest level since 2019/20. 👎

Popped into the brand new GTK clinic space in Ballina today – what a great setup!

They’ve created a purpose-built environment for wheelchair and seating assessments, with plenty of room to trial different chairs and see a range of demo options in person. It’s so valuable having this local space to collaborate with suppliers and make sure each client gets the most comfortable and functional setup possible.

Big thanks to the GTK team for showing me around – it’s fantastic to see more specialised wheelchair services available right here in the Northern Rivers! ♿👏🏽

🌟 Recognising National Carers Week 🌟

This week, we celebrate and honour the incredible work of carers – the everyday heroes who support, advocate, and care for loved ones with disabilities, chronic illness, or ageing needs. Your dedication, patience, and resilience do not go unnoticed.

As occupational therapists, we see firsthand the vital role carers play in enabling independence, participation, and quality of life. We want to take a moment to say thank you and remind you to also take care of yourselves – because your wellbeing matters too.

If you’re a carer looking for support, guidance, or strategies to make daily life a little easier, we’re here to help. You don’t have to do it alone. 💛
