CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA) πŸ’₯

πŸ’‘ Here at BLMI our Ultra-low Dose CT machine was installed to provide a spectrum of diagnostic imaging tests for most clinical needs. Reducing radiation dose by up to 85%, while maintaining the highest resolution diagnostic images. Including highest grade Cardiac Imaging.

❀️ CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA) uses CT scanning to take images of the coronary arteries of the beating heart, allowing for the diagnosis of diseases within the vessels.

πŸ’‰Liquid contrast agents are injected into a vein (usually in the arm) which increase the density of the blood in the vessels, and allow the inside and outside structure of blood vessels to be clearly visible on the CT angiogram images. Medication to reduce blood flow and slow down the heart rate might also be given to make the images even clearer and easier to interpret. This will either be given in tablet form or into a vein through a cannula.

INTERNATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY | Inspired Idea

International Overdose Awareness Day aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths.

It is also an opportunity to stimulate discussion about evidence-based overdose prevention and drug policy.

International Overdose Awareness Day acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends whose loved-ones have died or suffered permanent injury from a drug overdose.

International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message about the tragedy of drug overdose death and that drug overdose is preventable.

The goals of International Overdose Awareness Day are:
- To provide an opportunity for people to publicly mourn loved ones in a safe environment, some for the first time without feeling guilt or shame.
- To include the greatest number of people in International - Overdose Awareness Day events, and encourage non-denominational involvement.
- To give community members information about the issue of fatal and non-fatal overdose.
- To send a strong message to current and former people who use drugs that they are valued.
- To stimulate discussion about overdose prevention and drug policy.
- To provide basic information on the range of support services that are available.
- To prevent and reduce drug-related harm by supporting evidence-based policy and practice.
- To inform people around the world about the risk of overdose.

What is an Overdose?
An overdose means having more of a drug (or combination of drugs) than your body can cope with. There are a number of signs and symptoms that show someone has overdosed, and these differ with the type of drug used. All drugs can cause an overdose, including prescription medication prescribed by a doctor. It is important to know the right amount and the right time to take your medication. It is also vital to know what drugs should not be mixed, and to seek help if you feel you are not in control of your drug use.

NATIONAL STROKE WEEK | About Stroke

A stroke happens when blood supply to the brain is interrupted. Blood is carried to the brain by blood vessels called arteries. Blood contains oxygen and important nutrients for your brain cells. Blood may be interrupted or stop moving through an artery, because the artery is blocked (ischaemic stroke) or bursts (haemorrhagic stroke). When brain cells do not get enough oxygen or nutrients, they die. The area of brain damage is called a cerebral infarct.

Types of Stroke?
A stroke happens when blood cannot supply oxygen and important nutrients to your brain cells. When brain cells do not get enough oxygen or nutrients, they die. A stroke can happen in two main ways:
- A blood clot or cholesterol plaque blocks a blood vessel. This is called an ischaemic stroke.
- A blood vessel leaks or breaks. This is called a haemorrhagic stroke.
