Our HOSPO Health Leaders Program team has been on the road this week, heading to Tasmania’s beautiful East Coast to deliver workshops on Preventative Health and Resilience.

On Tuesday, Prof Angela Martin and Dr Sarah Dawkins spent the afternoon with the leadership team from Bark Mill Tavern and Bakery Swansea. The session kicked off with the Fundamentals of Workplace Mental Health, using a mix of interactive and reflective activities to explore what best practice looks like in action.

From there, the focus shifted to Positive Psychological Skills for Leading Well, sharing practical tools and insights to strengthen leadership impact and better support team wellbeing.

These face-to-face sessions create space to work through real examples and explore how strong practices can be embedded into everyday operations.

A huge thank you to Cherie and the entire leadership team at Bark Mill Tavern and Bakery for their openness, positive energy and ongoing commitment. 🙌

What a way to kick off a new week!

It was fantastic to be back at RACV Hobart Hotel this morning with Shelley Verdouw and the leadership team. RACV Hobart was one of the first properties to jump on board with HOSPO Health when we began in late 2022, and this is a property and group of leaders who have a genuine commitment to team wellbeing and culture right across the business.

Our Chief Happiness Officer Sherri Ring had a brilliant session working through the Emotional Culture Deck with the team. This group was really in sync on what matters most, for their people and for the business, which is something we love seeing. This sort of alignment is where the magic happens!

Thanks again for having us, we’re looking forward to the next session with you in our HOSPO Health Leaders Program.

Preventative health and resilience have been a big focus for us this month in the HOSPO Health Leaders Program, with Prof Angela Martin out working directly with our property leadership teams.

These sessions are hands-on and practical, mixing interactive activities with time to reflect, and importantly, giving leaders the chance to walk away with a clear plan they can put into action with their teams.

After her workshop at Iron Creek Bay Estate Angela caught up with Jo to chat through some of the key takeaways… and we couldn’t resist sharing that incredible view from the balcony of our meeting room!

Thanks so much to Jo and the team at Iron Creek Bay Estate for a fantastic afternoon. We'll see you next month.

Great leadership starts with understanding your people, and that’s a big part of our focus this month in the HOSPO Health Leaders Program.

Throughout March Prof Angela Martin is working with our participants on Workplace Mental Health Fundamentals, exploring how work and mental health are connected, what responsibilities we all share, and how leaders can build safe, supportive and resilient teams.

Through a mix of practical and reflective activities, our leaders are:
🔹 Building their understanding of mental health at work
🔹 Learning what good psychosocial risk management looks like in real life
🔹 Tackling real challenges and creating practical plans for their own venues

It’s not just theory, it’s about real tools, real conversations, and real change in workplaces across our industry. Have a listen to what Angela has to say about the HOSPO Health Leaders Program.

🧡 Today is Harmony Day 🧡

It's a great time to reflect on the importance of unity and diversity, something our industry lives and breathes every single day! Here in Tassie our incredible hospo community is made up of people form all over the world. And together, we create welcoming spaces for everyone - from locals just down the road to visitors who have travelled across the globe.

Did you know that Harmony Day began in Australia in 1999? Now it's celebrated across many countries and the message of 'Everyone belongs' is a reminder to care and respect one another regardless of background.

So today, take a moment to reflect on how you can bring the spirit of Harmony Day and belonging into your workplace for everyone.

Hospitality is powered by strong women.

From venue managers and chefs to business owners, supervisors and team leaders, women play a vital role in shaping the culture, energy and success of our industry.

At HOSPO Health, we see every day how much responsibility many women carry — leading teams, supporting colleagues, managing families and keeping businesses moving.

International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise that contribution and to remind ourselves of something equally important:

Leadership wellbeing matters.

When leaders are supported, respected and able to look after their own health and wellbeing, the entire workplace benefits.

Today we celebrate the women helping to build stronger, healthier hospitality workplaces across Tasmania.

Because when leaders thrive, teams thrive.

What an incredible way to start a new week!

Hospitality Tasmania's Chief Happiness Officer Sherri Ring had a great Monday afternoon at The Sebel Launceston, bringing the Wellbeing Framework to life with the properties leadership team.

It was a session full of honest conversations, real-life scenarios and practical ideas the team can take straight back into their workplace. There was plenty of collaboration, shared experiences and those lightbulb moments that happen when people feel safe to talk things through.

We also made time for something that often gets pushed aside: reflection on our own personal wellbeing. Each leader identified a few areas they’d like to focus on, because looking after others starts with looking after yourself.

We love working with properties that genuinely prioritise the health and wellbeing of their people. Well done to The Sebel Launceston team — and thank you for such an engaging and energising afternoon.

Just kicked off the day at Grand Chancellor Launceston running our HOSPO Health Wellbeing Framework session.

There’s something powerful about getting leaders around a table and having real conversations about what wellbeing actually looks like in their workplace.

Not fluffy.
Not surface-level.
Practical. Honest. Action-focused.

Today we’re working through the five pillars of the framework – Physical, Mental, Social, Financial and Occupational wellbeing – and exploring how leadership decisions shape culture every single day.

The best part?
Watching the discussions unfold.
Seeing leaders lean in.
Hearing the shift from “this sounds nice” to “we need to implement this.”

Wellbeing isn’t a side project.
It’s a leadership strategy.

Big day ahead – and this is exactly the work that moves the dial.

What a great session today at Wrest Point Hobart 💛

Our Chief Happiness Officer Sherri Ring delivered the Emotional Culture Deck with the leadership team as part of our HOSPO Health Leaders Program.

The conversations were honest, thoughtful and full of care for their teams. You could genuinely feel how much this group wants to create a workplace where people feel supported, valued and connected.

This is how strong culture is built, leaders taking the time to reflect, listen and grow together.

So proud to work with teams like this.

It's a bumper week for !

We're excited to kick off our 2026 workshops in the HOSPO Health Leaders Program, and we've had some amazing sessions, great conversations and inspiring ideas.

Dr Larissa Bartlett has been out and about delivering Mindfulness for Leaders workshops, and sharing knowledge, tools and practices to bring mindfulness into the workplace in a way that can lift individuals wellbeing as well as business outputs.

Another highlight was our Wednesday Wellbeing Framework and Culture sessions with Chief Happiness Officer Sherri Ring and Kalis Hospitality’s senior leadership team. Seeing the group come together from across the state and genuinely connect was inspiring, you could really feel the commitment they have to one another and to their teams!

One leader shared:

“I was a bit sceptical that this program was going to be all kumbaya, but I was pleasantly surprised. I got a lot out of it and can really see the value now.”

You can’t pour from an empty cup - but in hospo, we’ve been trying to for too long!

Every January, we talk about staff wellbeing, culture, retention. But we skip the critical first step: leadership wellbeing.

Here’s what I’m seeing in Tasmanian hospitality right now:
∙Leaders working 60-80 hour weeks as standard
∙Decision-making while exhausted (which costs money & people)
∙Zero buffer when the inevitable crisis hits
∙“I’ll rest when it’s quieter” (spoiler: it never is)

The data is clear: burnt-out leaders create burnt-out teams. You can’t manage psychosocial risks for your staff when you’re drowning yourself.

This year, we’re doing something different. Not wellness programs. Not generic self-care advice.
We’re building pressure-proof leadership - practical systems that help hospo leaders manage their own wellbeing in the chaos, not after it.

Because sustainable hospitality starts with sustainable leadership.

What’s one thing you’re doing differently this year to protect your own capacity?
