HOSPO Health An innovative health and wellbeing program developed for everyone in the Tasmanian hospo industry.

It's another busy week for our team, and our properties in the HOSPO Health Leaders Program.

On Tuesday, Dr Sarah Dawkins spent time with the leadership team from The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel and Hadley's Orient Hotel, exploring Positive Psychological Skills for Leading Well.

As leaders, it’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and put our own wellbeing on the backburner. But the truth is, if you’re not looking after yourself, it’s hard to show up at your best for your team, your business, and the people around you. And that's not just at work, it also includes your family and friends.

A big thank you to the leadership team at Hadley's Orient Hotel and The Old Woolstore for your commitment to creating a positive workplace culture that’s led from the top. Well done team!

We’re powering into a new week with a Monday morning session on the Wellbeing Framework at RACV Hobart Hotel.

Our Chief Happiness Officer Sherri Ring spent the morning with GM Shelley Verdouw and the leadership team, exploring the five pillars of wellbeing and how the framework can be applied within their property to support individuals, strengthen teams and boost overall business performance.

These sessions are a great way to bring leaders together, spark honest conversations and share ideas that can be put into practice straight away.

Thanks to the team for another fantastic session!

HOSPO Health isn’t a wellbeing program. It’s a safety program. And that distinction matters more than most people realise.

In hospitality, we’ve spent years talking about wellbeing, resilience & self-care. All valuable. But wellbeing programs put the responsibility on the individual.

Safety programs put it where it belongs, on the system, the leaders, & the organisation.
Under WHS legislation, psychological health is not optional. It’s not a nice-to-have. It’s a legal duty of care, the same as a wet floor sign or a fire exit.

HOSPO Health by Hospitality Tasmania is built on that foundation. It equips leaders to identify & manage psychosocial hazards before they cause harm. It builds team cultures where people feel safe to speak up. And it gives operators a structured, evidence-based framework, not just a mental health month.

Because when someone leaves hospitality burned out, exhausted, or broken, that’s a safety failure. The industry deserves better than feel-good programs. It deserves something that actually prevents harm.

That’s HOSPO Health.

Applications for next FY open in May. Watch this space.

It’s always great to hear directly from the leaders taking part in our HOSPO Health Leaders Program, and to see the positive impact it’s having across whole teams.

We recently caught up with Trent Thompson, General Manager at Freycinet Lodge, who’s been part of the HOSPO Health journey since the early days.

In this video, Trent shares his experience, from his first impressions through to the changes he’s seen within his leadership team, and the lessons he’s taking forward to better look after himself and make time to recharge.

Like all the leaders involved, Trent also provides feedback to our independent evaluators, which plays an important role in making sure the program continues to deliver real value to the hospitality sector.

We’ll be heading back to Freycinet Lodge in May for our next session and are looking forward to catching up with the team again. Thanks so much, Trent 🙌

Big news for Hospitality Tasmania - HOSPO Health applications are opening soon for the new financial year.

And if you haven’t heard of us yet, here’s what matters most:

HOSPO Health isn’t a wellness program.
It’s a psychosocial safety program.

This is about protecting leaders, supporting them to manage the real pressures of their roles, and giving them the tools to create safe, sustainable environments for their teams.

Because when leaders are under pressure without support, risk increases, for them, for their teams, and for the business.

Built on the Pressure-Proof Leadership™ framework, evidence-based psychosocial safety methodology developed specifically for high-pressure industries.

This program is designed to help hospitality venues:
• Understand & manage psychosocial risks
• Support leaders in high-pressure environments
• Strengthen team safety, culture & performance
• Meet obligations under the Work Health & Safety Act

Delivered through Hospitality Tasmania - and completely free to access - because safety at work shouldn’t depend on the size of your business.

📋 Applications for FY27 are opening soon.

If you’re serious about looking after your leaders and protecting your people, this is where it starts.

Follow the HOSPO Health page to be first to know when applications open.

Isn't it great to hear when something is making a positive impact? 🌟

We recently caught up with Linda Collis from Wrest Point Hobart who shared how the HOSPO Health Leaders Program is supporting her and her leadership team, building practical skills, strengthening culture, and creating real, lasting change across their workplace.

This program is designed specifically for Tasmania’s hospitality industry, and it’s fantastic to see the progress our current group of properties are making with a few months still to go.

Applications for next financial year’s program open in May, so keep an eye on our social media for updates - this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Our HOSPO Health Leaders Program team has been on the road this week, heading to Tasmania’s beautiful East Coast to deliver workshops on Preventative Health and Resilience.

On Tuesday, Prof Angela Martin and Dr Sarah Dawkins spent the afternoon with the leadership team from Bark Mill Tavern and Bakery Swansea. The session kicked off with the Fundamentals of Workplace Mental Health, using a mix of interactive and reflective activities to explore what best practice looks like in action.

From there, the focus shifted to Positive Psychological Skills for Leading Well, sharing practical tools and insights to strengthen leadership impact and better support team wellbeing.

These face-to-face sessions create space to work through real examples and explore how strong practices can be embedded into everyday operations.

A huge thank you to Cherie and the entire leadership team at Bark Mill Tavern and Bakery for their openness, positive energy and ongoing commitment. 🙌

What a way to kick off a new week!

It was fantastic to be back at RACV Hobart Hotel this morning with Shelley Verdouw and the leadership team. RACV Hobart was one of the first properties to jump on board with HOSPO Health when we began in late 2022, and this is a property and group of leaders who have a genuine commitment to team wellbeing and culture right across the business.

Our Chief Happiness Officer Sherri Ring had a brilliant session working through the Emotional Culture Deck with the team. This group was really in sync on what matters most, for their people and for the business, which is something we love seeing. This sort of alignment is where the magic happens!

Thanks again for having us, we’re looking forward to the next session with you in our HOSPO Health Leaders Program.

Preventative health and resilience have been a big focus for us this month in the HOSPO Health Leaders Program, with Prof Angela Martin out working directly with our property leadership teams.

These sessions are hands-on and practical, mixing interactive activities with time to reflect, and importantly, giving leaders the chance to walk away with a clear plan they can put into action with their teams.

After her workshop at Iron Creek Bay Estate Angela caught up with Jo to chat through some of the key takeaways… and we couldn’t resist sharing that incredible view from the balcony of our meeting room!

Thanks so much to Jo and the team at Iron Creek Bay Estate for a fantastic afternoon. We'll see you next month.

Great leadership starts with understanding your people, and that’s a big part of our focus this month in the HOSPO Health Leaders Program.

Throughout March Prof Angela Martin is working with our participants on Workplace Mental Health Fundamentals, exploring how work and mental health are connected, what responsibilities we all share, and how leaders can build safe, supportive and resilient teams.

Through a mix of practical and reflective activities, our leaders are:
🔹 Building their understanding of mental health at work
🔹 Learning what good psychosocial risk management looks like in real life
🔹 Tackling real challenges and creating practical plans for their own venues

It’s not just theory, it’s about real tools, real conversations, and real change in workplaces across our industry. Have a listen to what Angela has to say about the HOSPO Health Leaders Program.

Hospitality is powered by strong women.

From venue managers and chefs to business owners, supervisors and team leaders, women play a vital role in shaping the culture, energy and success of our industry.

At HOSPO Health, we see every day how much responsibility many women carry — leading teams, supporting colleagues, managing families and keeping businesses moving.

International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise that contribution and to remind ourselves of something equally important:

Leadership wellbeing matters.

When leaders are supported, respected and able to look after their own health and wellbeing, the entire workplace benefits.

Today we celebrate the women helping to build stronger, healthier hospitality workplaces across Tasmania.

Because when leaders thrive, teams thrive.
