Targeted Multi-Modality Treatment with Nordlys™

As we continue Rosacea Awareness Month, we are highlighting the advanced capabilities of the Nordlys by Candela, a medical-grade Selective Waveband Technology (SWT) platform that allows for high-precision treatment of complex skin profiles.

Redness and Pigmentation:
In a clinical setting, we often see patients presenting with overlapping concerns. While rosacea and telangiectasia (broken capillaries) require specific vascular targeting, many patients also exhibit solar lentigines (sun spots) and general dyschromia.

The Nordlys system allows us to address these concerns simultaneously:

SWT Technology: Unlike traditional IPL, Nordlys uses patented Selective Waveband Technology to eliminate unnecessary light wavelengths. This means more energy is delivered precisely to the target, enhancing patient comfort and safety.

Consultation & Assessment:
To determine which technology is most appropriate for your specific skin type and concerns, we invite you to book a complimentary 30-minute consultation with our dermal therapists.

Contact O’Skin Medical today to schedule your assessment.

Targeting Redness: Understanding the Candela Vbeam Laser

As we continue to observe Rosacea Awareness Month, we want to highlight the technology we use at O’Skin Medical to manage persistent redness and vascular concerns: the Candela Vbeam Pulsed Dye Laser.

While many recognise its role in treating rosacea, the Vbeam is a versatile, medical-grade solution for anyone looking to achieve a more even skin tone by addressing the underlying causes of redness.

How the Technology Works

The Vbeam is a pulsed dye laser that targets vascular lesions without breaking the skin surface. The laser energy passes through the epidermis and is absorbed by the oxyhaemoglobin in the blood vessels. This heat causes the vessel walls to shut down, allowing the body to naturally clear them over time.

To ensure the process is both safe and comfortable, the Vbeam utilises a Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD). This system sprays a precise burst of cooling gas onto the skin at the same time as the laser beam, protecting the tissue from overheating.

What We Can Treat

Vbeam is highly effective for a range of concerns, including:
Rosacea and facial flushing
Broken capillaries (telangiectasia)
Angiomas and Port Wine Stains
Red scarring, including post-acne marks

Planning Your Treatment

Preparation: For safety and efficacy, the treatment area must be free of any natural or artificial tan. Please remove make up prior to your laser session.

Timing: Results are not immediate. It typically takes about one month to see the full benefit of a single session as the vessels respond to the treatment.

Frequency: Because every skin concern is unique, the number of sessions required will vary based on your individual goals.

Start Your Consultation

Whether you are looking for clinical management of a skin condition or simply wish to reduce facial redness, we invite you to discuss your options with our team.

We offer complimentary 30-minute consultations with our dermal therapists, or you may book a privately billed appointment with Dr. Amy O’Brien.

At O’Skin Medical, we take a considered approach to diagnosis and management, which may include general measures, skin barrier support, and prescription treatments where appropriate.

From there, Dr Amy O’Brien works closely with our dermal therapists to assess your skin and guide a treatment plan tailored to you. This may include advice on appropriate skincare, in clinic treatments, and ongoing support.

Laser can play an important role, particularly for persistent redness and visible capillaries. Vascular laser is a key treatment we use to target dilated blood vessels and background redness. For some patients, IPL may also be considered depending on the presentation. Other lasers can improve skin quality, which also plays a role in rosacea management.

The focus is always on what your skin needs, and how we can support it safely and effectively over time. If you think we can help you, please reach out to our friendly staff on 6144 9291 or book through our website https://oskin.com.au/

Rosacea can be influenced by a number of triggers, and these are often different for each individual.

Common triggers include heat, sun exposure, alcohol, spicy foods, stress, and overly active or irritating skincare. Identifying your own patterns is an important first step in reducing flare ups.

Just as important is supporting the skin barrier. When the barrier is compromised, the skin becomes more reactive, more sensitive, and less able to tolerate even gentle products.

Simple changes make a difference - including consistently using a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and appropriate sunscreen. Adding niacinamide may be a useful next step for rosacea. Avoiding over exfoliation and unnecessary actives is equally important.

At O’Skin Medical, we work closely with our dermal therapists to guide patients on how to care for their skin at home, while forming a plan that supports long term skin health.

If you think we can help you then please call our friendly staff for a free 30 minute consultation with our dermal therapists or a privately billed medical consultation with Dr Amy O'Brien on 6144 9291 or book through our website https://oskin.com.au/

Did you know Nurse Sally and Dr Amy O’Brien also provide medical aesthetic consultations — and always have?

While many of our patients attend for skin cancer checks, treatments and surgery, there is often some surprise to learn that both Sally and Amy also consult in medical aesthetics.

At O’Skin, we are a doctor led clinic, with a strong focus on skin quality, structural support and long-term skin health. We regularly consult with patients seeking guidance around:

• Skin quality and overall skin integrity
• Lines and wrinkles
• Volume loss and facial structure changes associated with ageing
• Prevention and maintenance of natural, refined results

With several advanced treatment options introduced to Australia in 2026, aesthetic medicine continues to evolve toward regenerative approaches and subtle, considered outcomes.

For those who may not have previously felt aligned with aesthetic treatments, this evolution offers an opportunity to revisit the conversation in a more informed and modern context.

Our books are open for aesthetic consultations.

• Complimentary consultations with Nurse Sally
• Privately billed consultations with Dr Amy O’Brien

Another incredible ASCPD Symposium wrapped up.

Three days immersed in learning, connection, and the evolving space where medical dermatology and aesthetics meet. It’s always a standout on the calendar - bringing together both international and local expertise, and showcasing the latest in treatment innovations.

Thank you for inviting us to the Vbeam Pro launch and thank you to everyone who shared their knowledge and introduced new research findings - in particular the use of laser to induce epigenetic changeas in the skin.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn, reflect, and continue refining how we care for our patients. Already looking forward to next year.
