Baby not sleeping? This is exhausting for everyone! 🥱

I just finished a consultation with a lovely couple and their 3 week old baby who’s not sleeping well, in fact crying for hours on end every afternoon and evening.

This became so overwhelming for Mum that she booked a consultation with me amidst everyone’s tears yesterday afternoon. 😓

They were stuck on a merry go round of a crying & unsettled baby who wants to feed all the time = hours of crying and feeding.

As always, listening to her speak, she told me what was happening, as instinctively Mums already know, they just need some help managing it.

Her baby was crying for hours on end, not sleeping well, was having short breastfeeds, feeding frequently, had colic and reflux with frequent wet, explosive poos.

We unpacked her situation and they were able to connect the dots as they understood how her high milk volume was resulting in gastrointestinal pain & a crying/unsettled baby.

Implementing some suggestions with an observed breastfeed, their baby fed beautifully and finished the feed nice and settled.

They both left the session feeling a lot lighter with an array of tools to help manage her milk volume, skills to read their baby’s cues and an understanding of how it all ties together.

My family and I are relocating to Gladstone Region next month which means women and families of CQ will be gaining a breastfeeding professional and birth doula!

Birth services in rural and central QLD areas are limited with major specialist hospitals often a flight away in SEQ so this is a great opportunity for women in rural areas and CQ to get the support they need in the birth and breastfeeding space!

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Dr Robyn Thompson, friend, colleague and mentor.

I first learned of the Thompson Method scrolling Facebook with an Ad for the Breastfeeding Program. I was pregnant with William. There was something about her that made me think "I like her", I didn't think twice about investing in this program. Once William arrived I had a 1:1 consultation with her, this would be the start of my life trajectory completely changing!

I went from an inpatient adult mental health nurse to an IBCLC and then, my greatest professional achievement to date, a core member of Dr Robyn's team as a Breastfeeding Practitoner.

I couldn't be prouder. Dr Robyn mentored me intensely for 12 months and over the years as I absorbed as much of her knowledge as I could!

Dr Robyn has touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of women. Whether she was aware of this or not, her work goes much deeper than the face to face contact she had with breastfeeding women. Dr Robyn was changing the generational patterns of these women, the generational trauma, the red threads. Her work will be carried through for generations to come through empowerment, education and challenging the systems.

I am so proud to have had the opportunity to call Robyn my friend, my colleague and my mentor.
