We’re loving our wrapped HEDSS vehicles, always on the move, helping participants get out and about, enjoy day trips, attend appointments, and stay connected with the community.

Meet Emma & step Inside Emma’s World

We’re excited to introduce a brand-new monthly column in the HEDSS newsletter, written by one of our SIL participants, Emma 💛

Each month, Emma shares life from the Thornton house, from creative projects and costume days to music, movies, and the everyday moments that make supported independent living feel like home.
It’s an honest, joyful glimpse into life at HEDSS, told by someone right at the heart of it.

International Day of People with Disability - 3 December

Today we recognise International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), a global United Nations day dedicated to increasing awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

Since 1992, this day has highlighted the barriers, physical, technological and attitudinal, that still limit full participation, and the opportunities we all have to remove them. In Australia, it’s a collective effort involving government, community groups, organisations, schools, businesses and individuals working together for change.

The 2025 theme, “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” is a reminder that inclusion isn’t a one-day commitment. It’s something we build through everyday actions, conversations and systems that genuinely empower people with disability to live with independence, dignity and choice.

At HEDSS, we see the impact of true inclusion every day, in safe homes, meaningful connections and opportunities that support people to thrive. Today is a moment to celebrate the strengths and stories of people with disability, acknowledge the progress made, and recommit to the work still ahead.

Together, we can help create communities where everyone belongs.

This is why we do what we do.

🧡 Whether it’s helping through a health challenge, keeping families informed, or making sure there’s plenty of joy along the way (like steam train adventures 🚂), our focus is always on people living the lives they choose.

A big thank you to Anne for sharing these kind words; it means the world to our team.

🌟 Welcoming New Faces to HEDSS 🌟

We’re excited to welcome some amazing new team members to the HEDSS family 💙

A huge thank you to our staff for helping them feel at home and showing them the ropes. It’s inspiring to see our team grow with people who share our values and passion for providing quality, person-centred support.

Here’s to making a difference together.

We pause in reflection and gratitude for those who have served and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy.

Their courage reminds us of the strength found in compassion, unity, and community, values we hold close at HEDSS.

🌟 Our Vision at HEDSS 🌟

At HEDSS, we dream big because the people we support deserve the very best.

Our vision is to expand the availability of quality, person-centred NDIS support services and supported independent living across the Maitland and Newcastle area.

Every step forward brings us closer to a community where independence, choice, and inclusion are the standard.
