Bilateral rotator cuff tears (Full)
2 out of 3 specialists recommend surgery.
After careful consideration and research our patient has decided to NOT proceed with surgery, instead sticking it through with conservative management.

What will conservative management look like in his case?

- Pain management with medications and physio as needed
- Ongoing rehabilitation to maximise safe and durable functions. Exercises can be performed at the gym/pool, in the clinic or at home
- Lifestyle changes to accommodate realistic goals and expectations e.g. choosing to work in an environment that's less physically demanding (and injury-prone) for the shoulders

At the end of the day, the decision to have surgery vs non-surgery is ultimately up to YOU, after considering advice from specialists, GP's, health professionals and your trusted circle of family and friends.

AFTER: A 6° increase in extension after one session of physio (post-elbow ORIF and humeral fracture). Much more relaxed.

BEFORE: Restricted AROM, stiffer elbow with signs of guarding due to pain or fear and a less relaxed state.

Back to the sling after treatment and exercises for gradual weaning as instructed by the specialist!

Office workers often experience stiffness in the neck, tight shoulders, and upper back due to prolonged sitting and poor posture.

Incorporate these tips and physio-recommended exercises into your daily routine and see if you feel better!

Remember if pain persists, consider consulting a physio or medical professional for assessment and recommendations.

You can learn a lot just by looking at the soles of your daily shoes. Looks like our 80 y.o patient is heel striking on the right foot with excessive external rotation.
Is he compensating for pain in the knee?
Does he have weakened internal rotator muscles?
Or both?

We can find out from a subjective and clinical assessment!

Have you ever sprained the inner side of your ankle?

Around 70% of individuals experience an ankle sprain at some point in their lives, with half of these injuries happening during sports activities.

Medial (inner side) ankle sprains, make up approximately 15% of all ankle sprains. In a medial ankle sprain, the ligament that is sprained is the Deltoid ligament. The deltoid ligament is a strong, fan-shaped ligament located on the inner side of the ankle. It consists of multiple bands of fibres and is crucial in stabilising the ankle and preventing excessive inward movement (inversion) or over-rotation of the foot.

Pictured is the application of dry needling to the inner side of the ankle. Dry needling is used here to stimulate the natural healing process and reduce myofascial pain.
