Today is World Down Syndrome Day 💙💛
Celebrated on 21/3, this date represents the three copies of chromosome 21 that people with Down syndrome have.
This year’s theme is “Together Against Loneliness.”
Everyone feels lonely sometimes but for people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, loneliness can be more frequent and more painful. Their families can feel it too.
Loneliness can mean:
• Not having friends or a community to belong to
• Not having someone to share your feelings with
It’s more than just a feeling it can affect mental and physical health, leading to anxiety, depression, and reduced wellbeing.
Today is a reminder to build a more inclusive world where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected.
Let’s stand together because no one should feel alone. 💙💛
