Another study adding to the body of evidence that health behaviours are a better indication of health status, not weight. Recommending weight loss as a blanket recommendation for x, y and z is damaging and can often lead to people pursuing behaviours that will make their health (both physical and mental health) suffer. Among many other reasons this is why in my practice I focus on facilitating behaviour change to improve quality of life and health outcomes, the focus is not on the number on the scales.
People who were overweight or obese who followed a Mediterranean-style diet were less likely to die from any cause than people in the "normal" weight range who didn't, a large, long-term study finds.
