A little glimpse into who I am ✨

🐶 I have worked in animal care for the last decade, spending my time caring for animals, as well as people.

🌈 I have dyed my hair every colour possible; but most of you would know me with my bright green locks.

🏳️‍🌈 I am Q***r; and passionate in creating inclusive, safe spaces for LGBTIQA+ individuals.

🌱 I have been vegetarian and vegan most of my life; and as a practitioner I encourage individuals to explore plant-based foods whether they are vegan or omnivore.

🎶. The dance floor is my special place; and I have travelled the world dancing at different festivals.

📚 I have been studying holistic medicine for 11 years now; and will continue to study different modalities through my career to deepen my understanding of how to support individuals on their health journey.

The Spring Equinox, also known as Ostara, occurs in the Southern Hemisphere towards the end of September and celebrates the renewed life of the earth that comes with the Spring. It is a solar festival, celebrated when the length of the day and the night are equal (this happens twice a year, at Spring and Autumn Equinox).

This is a sabbat of growth, with themes of new beginnings and possibilities, balance, renewal, action and hope.

To honour the energies of this time of year, I like to decorate my altar and home with fresh flowers and a propagate new plants in my herb garden. As well and partaking in my usual rituals of bathing & baking.

Do you celebrate the wheel of the year? ✨💐

I love to regrow kitchen scraps, and propagate vegetable and herb trimmings from my garden and forging ventures. It is such a rewarding and fun thing to do, and is especially satisfying knowing you are reducing your food waste. So which scraps regrow well? If you’re wondering which end of the vegetables to propagate try the following.

Grow the tops of these:
🌱Carrots
🌱Beets
🌱Turnip
🌱Radishes
🌱Sweet potatoes
Cut off about 1-inch of top and place in water but do not submerge.

Grow the roots/ends of these:
🌱Green onion/onions
🌱Garlic
🌱Fennel
🌱Celery
🌱Romaine lettuce
🌱Bok Choy
🌱 Leeks
🌱Lemongrass
Cut off about 1 -3 inches of bottom and place in water but do not submerge.

Grow from cuttings:
🌱Basil
🌱Mint
🌱Lemon balm
🌱Parsley
🌱Sunrose
🌱Catnip
Rooting in water works especially well for soft-stemmed herbs, for woody herbs like rosemary, sage, lavender; oregano, and thyme, take cuttings from new, green growth; older brown stems do not sprout roots easily.

Remember to do the following:
🌿Not everything will sprout. If you’ve waited over a week and seen no sign of life, try again. Don’t get discouraged!
🌿Keep plants in a bright sunny space but not in direct heat or they will cook instead of grow.
🌿Change water regularly to keep the plants healthy. Slimy bottoms are normal, mould and rot is not.
🌿When transporting the plants outdoors and to soil, let them adapt. Start in dappled light and gradually move to sunnier spot direct sun spot.
🌿Often these plants will have a milder taste than the fresh vegetables the were regrown from.

With a steadily growing move towards plant-based diets across the world, it is important to consider the reasons why people transition to Vegan and the way we approach these transitions.

Many people may choose to go vegan because of their feelings
about animals rights; or in an attempt to reduce their ecological footprint, or they may be doing it for their own health
and well-being. All of these are valid reasons to transition.

Regardless of the motivation, there is no question that a healthy vegan diet is suitable for all life stages, but we must consider like most health issues; that this is still a case by case circumstance.

Not all plant-based diets are, by default, perfectly adequate. I spent a good portion of my life as a strict vegan; while also eating very poorly. Like all lifestyle “diet” patterns, they must be balanced and carried out appropriately to achieve wellness.

We must recognize that there are some health conditions that may interfere with an individuals ability to be strictly vegan permanently (i.e food allergies, eating disorder recovery, etc). The goal of Veganism is not perfection; but to make a conscious effort to choose healthier and more sustainable food sources, that nourish and care for your body; while also reducing harm to animals and the planet. 🌿
