Hi Full Circle community,

I am sorry to say that my business () instagram account has been hacked and hijacked. I am trying to recover, but in the meantime, please do not engage with any posts, stories and especially not direct messages that appear to come from the account.

Unfortunately, the rumours are false, I am not a crypto millionaire.

I’ll keep you posted on how this debacle unfolds.

Thanks all.

One of our amazing Full Circle Midwifery & Lactation Support mummas. So proud of her! 🙌
An excellent supply line resource linked here by the Australian Breastfeeding Association

Do you need to give bub a top-up feed?

Some mums find using a supply line works for them - bub gets the extra milk and sucks at the breast at the same time.

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2023 is here and the theme is ‘Enabling breastfeeding: Making a difference for working parents’.

In Australia, new mothers' desire to breastfeed is reflected by initiation rates of 93%–96%. Yet the duration of exclusive breastfeeding to 5 months is low at 15%–22% and breastfeeding to 2 years of age is 7%–10%. Australian breastfeeding rates are well below the World Health Organization's (WHO) global nutrition targets of 50% exclusive breastfeeding rates by 2025. One key factor impacting exclusive breastfeeding rates, to 6 months and beyond, is the breastfeeding mother's Return To Work.
Australian research by Xiang and colleagues (2016) revealed that women who RTW within 3 months of having their baby had lower probability of breastfeeding at 6 months, compared to those who had not returned to work.

This is such an important aspect of early motherhood and our ability to breastfeed our babies for the duration that mothers' (and babies) may wish. The complexities of the way in which we live and how we recognise and support the work of new motherhood is something we are going to continue to discuss throughout WBW 2023.

Winter bugs and breastfeeding. 😵‍💫

Did you know that when your precious little one catches a respiratory virus, breastfeeding support becomes URGENT?

Let's talk about why it's essential to prioritize breastfeeding during this crucial time.

Respiratory viruses, such as colds or the flu, can be tough on your newborn's delicate immune system. But here's the good news: breast milk is a superhero in disguise! 🦸‍♀️

It contains antibodies and immune-boosting properties that help protect your baby from getting sick or reduce the severity of the illness if they do.

Breastfeeding not only provides vital nutrients and hydration, but it also offers the added advantage of tailored antibodies specifically designed to fight off the respiratory virus your little one has encountered. That's personalized protection you won't find anywhere else!

But here's the catch: when your baby is feeling under the weather, breastfeeding might become more challenging. Nasal congestion or a stuffy nose can make latching difficult, and babies can become fussier, making feedings a little trickier. That's where URGENT breastfeeding support comes in!

💡 Reach out to a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) for guidance. They can provide expert advice and techniques to help your baby latch properly, even when they're congested. They may also suggest safe remedies to clear their airways before feedings.

👐 Remember, breastfeeding offers more than just nutrition; it provides comfort, closeness, and an emotional bond between you and your little one. It's a powerful tool to soothe and nurture them during this challenging time.

🌟 So, new parents, when your baby is facing the winter lurgies, remember the vital role that breastfeeding plays in their recovery and protection.

Seek URGENT breastfeeding support to ensure your little one gets the nourishment and immune support they need to bounce back stronger than ever.

We here at Full Circle collaborate with the amazing team at Cub Care to give a holistic approach to urgent care of babies and include much-needed breastfeeding support as apart of the care plan.

Mothers…
A first glance it can look much the same, but if you look a little closer, a little deeper, there are differences and nuances to each and every mother-baby dyad.

For mum… different breasts, different arm lengths, different hormonal cocktails, different values, different journeys to that point.

For baby… different oral anatomies, different sizes and strengths, different gut sensitivities and different personalities.

The variables between them all are in fact endless.

So on ‘Mother’s Day’, when we celebrate all mothers in all their forms, we invite you take a moment to reflect on your own uniqueness in mothering and celebrate that.

There is no comparing in this realm, as how can we, when we are simply all so very different.

How we mother is completely our own.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the uniquely amazing mothers out there. We hope you feel celebrated in doing the most important, most challenging and most valuable job in the world.

Amazing interview of some fantastic midwives at Mater Mothers' Hospital done by one of our wonderful mummas we have supported Kendall Gilding here at Full Circle Midwifery & Lactation Support. On International Day of the Midwife, we would like to do a shout out to the incredible midwives we have supported in new motherhood.

This years theme is: 'Together again: from evidence to reality'. This theme honors the efforts of midwives and their associations to action critical evidence, towards meaningful change for our profession and the women and families we care for.

What incredibly special work it is to support midwives transition from their role of supporting mothers, to being mothers. What a privilege it is to be trusted in that vulnerable space.

In fact, it is our deep midwifery skills of being ‘with women’ that is the fundamental foundation of the care we provide here at Full Circle.

We are so proud to be midwives (& IBCLC’s); to work with an amazing team of midwives here and to support some
very special midwives on their on Full Circle journey.

Happy International Day of the Midwife you bunch of legends.

Marie is on a new adventure!

We are so excited and equally sad to announce that Marie has been head hunted for an exciting project in womens’ health promotion, which will keep her main focus for the next 12months.

Unfortunately this means we will not be offering new appointments at Full Circle with Marie for the next while. However, Marie’s continuity of care families will still have her oversight and Marie will still continue to case conference with Full Circle.

We are so excited to see what Marie achieves and brings to the wider community in her new role.

Full Circle will continue to cover the full week with Bekki taking on additional clinics and appointments in Marie’s absence.

A big heartfelt thank you to Marie for all the incredible support and care she have provided our Full Circle families to date. We look forward to collaborating and opening her clinics again in the future.
