The earth's gift story was born where every great business idea is born - over a vanilla thickshake at McDonalds after school. But first, to put the thickshake into context, we must take a walk down memory lane…
Since they could walk, earth's gift founder, Grace, and her big sister, Ava, have had an affinity with the great outdoors. They were two active little kids who loved nothing more than collecting heart-shaped leaves, four-leaf clovers, random feathers, interesting sticks and ‘special’ rocks. They would walk and walk (and WALK) for miles along any beach as they treasure hunted for the perfect shell. There was one infamous holiday with their grandparents, on a half-lap around Australia when they were 10 and 12 years old, when the girls walked so far by themselves, off into the sunset, that they were just dots on the West Australian horizon - and Pop almost had to call the police. The definition of a ‘special’ rock has matured with these sisters. First, it was the endless hunt for the most ‘unusual’ rock at their local park (read: the dirtiest, grossest geological find that would have any new parent reaching for the antibacterial wipes). Then as they got older, it was all about finding the smoothest ‘lucky stone’ at the beach (editor’s note: for anyone who has travelled through Bargara, east of Bundaberg on the Queensland coast, this place is the stuff of ‘lucky stone’ legends!). It wasn’t long before the girls discovered crystals. With so many colours, varieties, textures, shapes and sizes on offer, they were quickly and absolutely hooked on this crazy new world of ‘rocks’. While their obsession with crystals initially started over all the pretty colours and shapes available to them, as time went on, the girls learned more and more about each crystal’s special properties. Crystals became a mainstay. And grew. The girls started to carry crystals around with them for the confidence, comfort and safety that they provided. Crystals went on early school camps, secretly tucked inside a pillowcase, to help calm an anxious mind to sleep. Crystals supported their kiddie owners on long school bus trips to quell phobias of travel sickness. Crystals still now get carried around in pockets and bags (and bras!) for random, but very relevant and important reasons, on any particular day. The girls' very proud mum talks about how she'll often slide into their beds for a bedtime cuddle only to be 'impaled' by all the various crystals under their pillows and in the girls' beds with them! Which brings us back to the Maccas thickshake (with a side of fries). By the age of 12, Grace had already experienced and benefitted from the undeniable feeling of empowerment that crystals gave her. They supported her wellness journey through anxiety. Ava was carrying a crystal, or three, everywhere she went. Grace decided that more kids needed to enjoy the positive benefits that she and her sister did.
