Functional Patterns Brisbane is a functional movement based clinic that focuses on getting incredible posture and chronic pain results for our clients. We use gait (walking/running) as a tool to identify any dysfunctional movement patterns. We then use our advanced movement based techniques to correct these patterns an balance out the body. This results in some incredible before and afters for postural improvement and chronic pain reduction.

Brisbane prac .delange - Chronic shoulder pain and scapula wing improvements with my client Murphy.


Murphy came to 18 months ago to resolve long standing shoulder issues that were inhibiting his ability to bowl consistently in competitive cricket without hurting himself. I recommended he stop bowling for at least 6 months to focus on balancing his structure as bowling is highly asymmetrical. He has been bowling pain free for the last year or so and has a much deeper understanding of his body and how it needs to move. We focused solely on the the Fp big 4 “standing, walking, running and throwing” to help Murphy, no time spent focusing on sport specific exercises. A perfect example of focusing on the system and not the symptoms. Murphy has been an excellent client and very much an active participant in addressing his structural issues, well done mate.

I originally came to FP in early 2021 for a bad shoulder injury that was persistent despite the numerous visits to different physios. As a cricketer this took a severe toll on my ability to play cricket and bowl. Once Shane had identified the real problems with my posture and the way I move, he was able to set out and fix them, recommending I stop bowling for at least 6 months. Coming back into bowling after that break there was a dramatic increase in comfort and overall ability to bowl. The main difference was my ability to bowl without pain, but also I was able to be a better bowler, bowling both faster and for longer periods.

Shane and FP have also helped with my ability to move in day to day life without pain. My overall well-being has drastically improved since joining FP and I look forward to seeing even more result in the future.

Another result from our prac .emett - Chronic hip pain eliminated and physique gains made with my client Charma over 17 months training 2 x per week

Charma: I’ve been unlucky enough to have early degenerative hip disease which caused pain and discomfort in my right hip and often lead to further pain elsewhere in my body, particularly my back, knees and feet. Following the birth of my children, the issues with my hip exacerbated resulting in a hip arthroscopy which unfortunately did not result in significant improvement. Five years later, back in the surgeons office the recommendation was a full hip replacement, not something I was prepared to consider at my age. In late 2020, carrying too many COVID kilos the normal discomfort had increased to significant pain and required management through regular pain medication. I had been unable to successfully make further improvements through other allied health supports and Pilates and in my search for a last resort alternative to surgery I discovered FP. Only on occasion I feel pain, sudden movement or funny landing but I have no ongoing chronic pain or in fact muscle tightness. Everything is moving better and I have more confidence that physically it’s all holding together. Unexpected benefits on this journey so far: improved posture, increased energy, better stress resilience, sleeping better, improved work performance, reduced pre-menstrual tension, generally happier and overall a much healthier lifestyle. I’ve smashed some long standing bad habits and my kids see me now as a positive role model (strong and healthy Mum). Thank you Max,

400K ! Functional Patterns is the tortoise in the tortoise and hare race. We haven't had a quick rise but we're seeing a consistent uptake in followers and engagement on the platform. We keep sticking to the principals that orient our training to get results, and ultimately the end consumer is becoming more aware of this as time moves forward.

It's a gradual process educating people on better movement values so they can determine what's good for them. Ephemeralization is the goal at FP. We aim to do more with less, teaching you to be efficient with everything that you do. When you create economy of motion with your movement, you set the stage for your body to regenerate at the most fundamental levels.

Every day our culture slowly shifts towards understanding the importance of movement economics. A revolution in health and human performance is happening right now. Had the pleasure of running a biomechanics session with - the focus was on understanding why improved quality of movement equals more time on the field over the long term and less time in pain.


We covered myofascial release techniques, as well as some basic corrective exercises and running tips to help these athletes perform optimally

Great improvements made by Trent here so far. He has worked on adopting a more functional value set that prioritises his health and has been able to reap the full benefits of FP as a result.

Before starting with FP I would experience a lot of pain in my knees and lower back from doing my job and taking part in other physical activities. Nowadays, however, I am pain free and can complete my work in a more efficient manner. I am also more selective in which types of activities I take part in.
My breathing has also dramatically improved as before I found the compression in my ribcage and chest region restricted my ability to breathe in. Fp has helped me improve my ability to breathe and I have done a lot of work on reducing the compression in my ribcage.
