Big News! 👁️✨

We’ve reached an incredible milestone in the very first month of our "Eye for an Eye" initiative! Because of your support, we are donating $33,649.46 to The Fred Hollows Foundation. 💙

This was a true team effort. A heartfelt thank you to:
Our Patients: Everyone who had their cataract surgery with us at the Institute this February.
Our Referring Optometrists: Our dedicated partners who joined us for the Annual VFLI Conference and continue to refer to us.

Together, we aren't just restoring sight—we’re changing lives. Thank you for being part of this journey!

We’re kicking off the VFLI 2026 Webinar Series with our first Chat & Sip CPD session of the year.

Join Dr Ryan Nugent as he explores one of the most common challenges in optometric practice — distinguishing normal post-operative healing from complications requiring referral.

With a focus on cataract and oculoplastic surgery, this practical, case-based session will provide clear guidance on recognising red flags and making confident clinical decisions in the post-op period.

✔️ Free CPD points
✔️ Interactive, real-world learning
✔️ Suitable for optometrists at all stages

📅 Wednesday 15 April 2026
⏰ 6:00pm

VFLI Conference Highlight #10

Dr Ye Li took us through ocular emergency management at the VFLI Conference — sharing the key red flags and rapid decisions that matter when vision is on the line.

Because when it comes to eye emergencies, every minute counts.

VFLI Conference Highlight #9

Dr Ken Ng took us into the enigmatic and often overlooked world of the vitreous humour.

And just when we thought things couldn’t get more interesting… a slide appeared of Dr Ng in a giraffe onesie! 🦒

Pulling off that outfit is a tall order—but somehow he managed it.

VFLI Conference 2026 Highlight #8 – Dr Ashley Porter 👀

Great engagement during Dr Ashley Porter’s session on ocular surface lesions at the VFLI Optometry Conference.

Plenty of laughs, plenty of notes, and lots of practical tips for recognising and managing these common presentations.

VFLI Conference Highlight #7 - the Catering!

Feast your eyes 👀🍴 Our conference delegates didn’t just learn—they indulged!
Huge thanks to Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre for hosting and catering this delicious spread. Missed it? Your taste buds are officially jealous 😏 See you all next year!

VFLI Conference 2026 Highlight #6

Our fearless leader, Dr. Cameron McLintock, led the charge on corneal and refractive surgery… and revealed some eye-opening truths about Demodex—those tiny “eye parasites” we all carry—proving that when it comes to parasites, he definitely knows how to exterminate. 😎

VFLI Conference Highlight #5

“Without data, it’s just an opinion.” — and this session delivered plenty of both insight and evidence.

Thanks to Samir Uprety for the update on clinical research at the Vision for Life Institute (VFLI).

Future of ophthalmology = built on real data, not just trends.

VFLI Conference 2026 Highlight #4

OCT masterclass with Dr Alex Newman = 10 mistakes that can delay treatment (and how to avoid them)
Big focus on Geographic Atrophy and why the details really matter.

Plus a quick update from Craig Trevethan (Apellis) on new and emerging GA treatments.

And as always… perspective is everything
I’ve been talking a big game all conference, but standing next to Alex tells a different story 😅

Conference Highlight #3
Neuro-ophthalmology was a bit of a surprise hit at the conference 👀

Dr Anthony Fong's talk on true optic nerve swelling vs pseudoswelling had everyone hooked — and judging by the heaps of requests afterwards, it’s a topic people want more of!

Not always the easiest calls to make… but such an important part of practice.

We hear you — more neuro-ophth content coming your way soon 🙌

Highlight #2 👀
The pressure was on… and Dr Braden Meiklejohn delivered.

A clear, sharp session on advances in glaucoma treatment — practical, focused, and right on target.
