1% Better Everyday

I love this quote on clothing that the lovely Trudi from was rocking today in our gym session.

What a cool mindset shift to think about for our practices, wellness habits that support living a more balanced life and those spiritual qualities of the heart that we want to cultivate more of.

Personal growth and inner change can feel overwhelming and daunting at times but what if each day you just focused on showing up 1% better than the day before.

1% Better...... To practice your meditation with more focus and devotion ... at less screen times at night to support earlier rising... At practicing tolerance and compassion towards others...to lean into seeing your own imperfections rather than finding the faults with others .. At moving your body to support greater mental balance ...at eating your food in a more mindful way
...the list could go on

Karma Yoga had a bit of a different spin today, getting dusty with some physical manual labour and learning a few things of the trade.

As a mobile yoga and meditation studio we bring everything with us as we share the gift of yoga and meditation across different locations via community halls in North Brisbane, our set up is comfortable and setting ambient and welcoming and yes we even have kitchen stuff for monthly special events too we need to store, big pots, rice cooker etc.

Our storage solution to date has been our van and across some of our volunteers houses as there ain't anymore room in our cosy unit for stuff. But at the start of the year we needed to find a new place for all our kitchen supplies so hence the push to work out more sustainable storage solutions moving forward.

New customer built storage units in the making; we were thankful to get the materials as a donation which is such a win as they are 🫰 but labour needed and definitely another couple of days of volunteer hours too to help install and cut shelving. If this is your jam and you want to build some muscles then we have the job for you 🤣

After yesterday’s practice, I just want to check in..

It was powerful - I'm still feeling it and maybe you are too hence the after care follow up.

When a sequence truly lands—when the breath deepens, the body softens, and something long held finally loosens—there can be a quiet cracking open. Old emotions rise. Stored stories surface. Energy that has been braced or buried finds its way out. This is not a sign that something went wrong.

It is often a sign that something moved.

Sometimes a class isn’t just movement. It’s a remembering. A softening. A release of things we didn’t even realize we were still carrying.

When breath, movement, nature, and mantra come together, something shifts. The breath gently signals to the nervous system that it’s safe. The body begins to speak. The places that have been guarding or holding start to let go.

And when they do, emotions can rise.

Tears.
Tenderness.
Humility.
Gratitude.
Relief.

This is not weakness.

This is your system trusting enough to release.

Yesterday, you allowed yourselves to be guided. You let the practice move through you instead of performing it. This is where the magic happens.

There is something incredibly powerful about being held in a safe container — a space built on presence, compassion, and love. Nothing to prove. Nothing to fix. Just space to be.

If you’re feeling tender today, honor that.
Drink water.
Rest more than usual.
Walk gently.
Journal what surfaced.
Immerse your mind and heart in mantra meditation music with your hand on your heart and breathe softly into it.

Integration is as sacred as activation.

The unfolding after the practice matters just as much as what happened on the mat.

I am so grateful to hold this space for you. What opened yesterday isn’t something breaking — it’s something healing. It’s your body remembering its wisdom.

From the archives - these sweet pictures bring back so many lovely memories.

Way back in 2018 I started a little initiative at our flagship studio in West End called Karma Kitchen. It was monthly cook up for the Sunday meditation program which welcomed anyone coming along to the programs to have some fun in the kitchen and prepare the community meal.

It was a great connection point, we'd do an announcement a few weeks before to get interest and then meal planning began! It was great for newer people coming along to programs to get behind the scenes and make friendship with like minded people, plus be introduced to the world of the vegetarian cooking šŸ˜‹

Fast forward to 2026 - KARMA KITCHEN LANDS ON THE NORTHSIDE!!

We are always seeking ways to refine and improve our offerings and the way we do things, creating pathways for people to grow and experience first hand the yoga lifestyle and how it can enrich our lives in so many way.

Each month we have a special meditation evening that travels around to a new suburb attempting to pass on the gift of mantra meditation to others. They are honestly the highlight of our month, something special about going into community, meeting people with where they are at. Putting on a meal, bringing people together and sharing in an experience which fills your heart with pure joy and peace.

If you haven't been along to one, then its a must, we have one tomorrow Mantra Meditation Evening - Mango Hills. All welcomed

These programs are 100% powered by volunteers; from setup and decorations, to cooking the community meal, hosting the program and pack down, photography plus lots of behind the scenes marketing.

If you would like to get involved in any way with this community offering then please reach out.

The Karma Kitchen is a major part of this evening and requires alot of people power; from food preparation, to cooking, to serve out, kitchen clean up and pack down. There is some wonderful and enthusiastic volunteers at present in training with the cooking side of things but we always want to keep things open for others to join the karma kitchen fun.

We've crated a What's Up group if your keen to help out in anyway with these events - I remember when I first started coming along to regular meditation programs I was in awe of the people hosting the programs and the care and selflessness that flowed from them, I always wanted to help out but felt shy at first.....until someone took me under their wing and the rest is history. What an incredible journey it has been!

Whipped this health bomb up in the kitchen today.

After-Dinner Digestive Refresher šŸŒ¬ļø

In Ayurveda, simple seeds hold powerful wisdom. Cumin, coriander, and fennel are traditionally enjoyed after meals to gently support digestion, reduce bloating, and freshen the breath.

Together they help balance agni (digestive fire), soothe the stomach, and leave you feeling light and satisfied rather than heavy.

A small ritual with big benefits -nature’s way of saying thank you to your digestive system.

Recipe:
Dry roast equal parts cumin, coriander and fennel seeds until slightly brown and aromas released. You can do on the stove or in the oven. Let cool, optional to gently crush a little with mortar and pestle, store in a container and have a teaspoon (chew) after each meal to welcome in the health benefits

We were fortunate to start our week with a swim in the ocean 🌊

Earlier, I was out on a japa meditation walk, it was a clear day, the water had rolling soft waves, the sun gently beaming down.

Within moments, the weather changed, it became overcast, the winds picked up and the waves got more intense.

We ventured in for a swim, it was refreshing, but a bit of hard work too at times; battling the big waves. I noticed it would come in patterns - a few big ones, then you would get a reprieve for a bit.

I couldn't help but reflect on these two experiences in nature and some yoga wisdom which has helped me navigate my life's journey with more understanding and awareness.

Appreciating the reality that this material world is in a constant flux of change -
🫰 Our circumstances in life can change just like that.
🫰 Seasons of relationship come and go - some sustain the tests, others don't
🫰 Our minds are constantly jumping from one desire to another, often with contradicting desires. ..the list could go on

It's like those waves from our swim, you get smashed around by different experiences of life, then we get a little reprieve and we think we are actually in a state of happiness because we are not in a state of suffering, and then watch out here comes another wave.

Our birth right is to actually experience the highest happiness of wisdom and spiritual love, to uncover our true essence. To discover one’s true identity is the actual goal of, and indeed, the real definition of yoga

Through regular contemplation upon yoga wisdom, combined with the practice of meditation, kirtan, and living a yoga lifestyle, one becomes increasingly enlightened as the layers of misconception covering our hearts and minds are gradually cleansed away.

We start to see the world as it is (not our real home) we have more clarity on how to use our time and energy for a higher focus 🧭 and we have a buoy that we can hold into (sacred mantras and yoga wisdom) to help us navigate all the changes and challenges.

Forever grateful for this knowledge - we welcome you along to all our meditation programs which introduces people to these wonderful practices and wisdom to help support your life.

Namaste & Welcome to Everton Park Yoga.

We feel very happy your journey has led you to discover our classes and offering; giving you access to a variety of ways to improve your health and wellness in the convenient locations of Suburbia Brisbane.

Amit and Chantelle have been leading a Yoga Lifestyle for over 8 years and sharing the gift of yoga in different community settings; from corporate seminars and classes, workshops, retreats, Universities and studio classes. You will find this dynamic duo laid back and very passionate about all things yoga, especially Kirtan meditation and helping people to establish a home practice in order to really experience the amazing benefits of this timeless wisdom in their daily life.

Classes at Everton Park yoga are suitable for beginners to intermediate; with different variations and alignment guidance given. Each class takes you on a journey starting with connection to breath, moving into yoga postures (Asanas) and ending with relaxation and meditation. You will leave feeling energized, yet grounded with an sense of inner peace and clarity of mind.
