Reminder: Our first ever Restaurant Experience for residents and their families is happening soon.

At St Nicholas, we’re always looking for new ways to bring meaningful experiences and choices to our residents and what better way than through great food, fun, and togetherness.

We’re delighted to welcome Michael Hatzifotis from New Farm Seafood, who will be cooking his signature paella on Tuesday 18 November in the courtyard from 4.45pm. Michael will share his secrets to creating a spectacular paella before everyone sits down to enjoy the meal together. Let us know you are coming by emailing admin@stnichs.com.au

Families are warmly encouraged to join the fun $44 per person.

The Power of Intergenerational Connections

If you’ve ever watched Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds, you’ll know just how powerful intergenerational programs can be. Research shows that spending time with children can boost mood, improve memory, reduce loneliness, and even enhance mobility and confidence among older adults.

At St Nicholas, we’re proud to have a wonderful intergenerational program in partnership with Greek Orthodox Community Childcare Centre and Cottage Grove Early Learning, both in Highgate Hill, bringing together our elders and little ones for regular visits and special events. Each encounter fills our home with laughter, energy, and a beautiful sense of connection that enriches everyone involved.

These photos were taken at our recent outing to Oxi Day commemorations presented by GOCCC and visits to our home from Cottage Grove Early Learning. So much joy!

Eden Alternative Learning Moment

Back in September we talked the 7 Domains of Wellbeing. Today we want to focus on one of those - Autonomy.

Autonomy is about having freedom, self-determination, and the ability to make choices that reflect who we are. In aged care, that means truly listening, respecting preferences, and involving residents in daily decisions regardless of whether they are big or small.

💚 Choosing what to wear or where to sit
💚 Helping set the table or pick the day’s music
💚 Doing what they can for themselves
💚 Living at their own pace

At St Nicholas, we honour autonomy by supporting residents to live life their way, playing games, going for a walk, enjoying bible study or having a meal outdoors, whatever they choose, we support dignity, respect, and choice every day.

Melbourne Cup Day at St Nicholas.

The race that stops the nation certainly brought plenty of excitement to St Nicholas today. Residents got right into the spirit of Melbourne Cup Day, donning their finery, hats, feathers, and fascinators for an afternoon of fun, and laughter.

There was high tea, complete with sweet treats and sparkling conversation, and of course some sweeps.

It was a wonderful day filled with colour, joy, and community, proof that the Melbourne Cup is as much about connection and celebration as it is about the horses.

Resident Outing to New Farm Park

After a hot day on Monday and a rainy day on Tuesday, yesterday was a beautiful day out. Our residents enjoyed a lovely trip to New Farm Park, taking in the fresh air and a gentle walk along the river. Check out the stunning views.

Lunch at the End of the Road Café was the perfect finishing touch. Who doesn't love good food and good company? It brings plenty of smiles all around.

It’s these simple pleasures such as sharing a meal, feeling the breeze by the river, and connecting with friends can be so special.

Oxi Day Commemoration at St Nicholas

What a beautiful evening we shared in honour of Oxi Day. Residents, families and friends came together for over two hours of Greek music and dancing in a joyful commemoration of culture, courage and community.

A heartfelt thank you to Chris and John Economides for the wonderful live music, to Christina for leading our music and choir, and to our beautiful St Nicholas Choir for their heartfelt performance.

It was a night to remember, one full of joy, pride and togetherness.

Recently we celebrated our lovely Antonia’s birthday. The room was filled with smiles, and the wonderful company of friends who came together to share in her special day.

There was, of course, cake....two in face, which were enjoyed by all. Happy Birthday, Antonia. 💗

We were very pleased to welcome Fr Dimitri and families to last night’s fully subscribed workshop, all eager to learn, share, and gain guidance as they navigate the emotional and practical journey into aged care.

Fr Dimitri led a thoughtful and compassionate workshop, providing valuable information, real-life examples, and meaningful perspectives that truly resonated with everyone in the room.

The engagement from participants was wonderful, with insightful questions, open discussions, and a strong sense of community among those on similar paths. It was a wonderful reminder of the importance of coming together, supporting one another, and accessing the right tools and guidance at the right time.

One participant shared their experience:
“The information tonight was exactly what our family needed. It helped us understand the process, feel more prepared, and know we’re not alone. It was such a worthwhile evening.”

A huge thank you to Fr Dimitri for his wisdom and warmth, and to everyone who attended and contributed to such a meaningful session.

If you missed out this time, stay tuned as more workshops will be announced soon.
