This video is so powerful because it reminds us that it is not our job to change others. Our role is to listen, to understand, and to respond with empathy. One of our mentors recently shared this video with us and while it may be older, its message is timeless and still deeply impactful today.

At Lucca’s World, this is exactly what Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is about. PBS is not about fixing a person or making them fit into someone else’s idea of what they should be. It is about recognising the uniqueness of every individual, listening to what their behaviours are communicating, and supporting the people around them such as families, carers, educators, and support teams to respond in ways that foster safety, connection, and growth.

The video reminds us that when we stop trying to change people and instead focus on understanding them, we build stronger and more respectful relationships. This is the heart of what we do at Lucca’s World: creating environments where people feel respected, valued, and supported, and where families and teams feel empowered with practical, meaningful strategies.

Every behaviour tells a story.

Sometimes what we see on the surface is only a small part of what is really happening. For many people with disabilities, behaviour can be a way of communicating needs, emotions, or challenges that are not always visible.

At Lucca’s World, we believe that inclusion begins with understanding. By looking beneath the surface, we see the person, their strengths, and their voice. We walk alongside families to build safe, supportive environments where every individual is valued, respected, and heard.

Because all behaviour is communication, and all communication matters.

🌟 Speech Pathology Week 2025 🌟

At Lucca’s World, we believe that everyone deserves the right to communicate in ways that feel safe, empowering, and understood. Communication is more than just words, it’s the foundation for connection, learning, self-expression, and belonging.

Speech therapy plays a vital role in helping people of all ages build these skills. For some, this may mean developing spoken language, while for others it may mean using different and equally valid ways of communicating. We strongly support the inclusion of all models of communication, such as AAC, PECS , key word sign, visual supports, and other tools that honour each person’s unique voice.

By embracing multiple communication pathways, we remove barriers and create opportunities for individuals to be heard, respected, and truly included in their families, schools, and communities.

This week, as we celebrate Speech Pathology Week, we want to recognise the incredible impact that speech pathologists, families, and support teams make every day. At Lucca’s World, we are proud to stand alongside them, advocating for communication access and celebrating every small step that helps a person connect with the world around them.

💬 Because every voice matters – no matter how it’s expressed.

Inclusion through Communication

Every person deserves to be heard. Speech pathologists advocate for accessible, diverse communication, whether through Auslan, AAC, or tailored supports.

Communication is for everyone.

This beautiful short film from BBC Ideas shares the story of Murray, a non-speaking autistic person with a rich inner world and so much to express. It reminds us that just because someone communicates differently, it does not mean their voice is any less powerful or important.

At Luccas World, we believe every human being deserves to be treated with respect, kindness, and dignity. Behaviours are not just “actions” to be managed they are forms of communication, often carrying messages about needs, feelings, or the environment around us. When we pause and listen with compassion, we create space for connection, belonging, and understanding.

This video is a moving reminder that behind every behaviour is a person with hopes, emotions, and the right to be heard.

🌿 Accessing and Shaping the Environment

At Lucca’s World, we believe that the environment plays a vital role in how individuals grow, learn, and thrive. Every person deserves to feel safe, supported, and included in the spaces they move through. That’s why we place strong importance on working alongside families, schools, and communities to create environments that are accessible, flexible, and responsive to individual needs.

Making small, thoughtful changes to the environment, whether at home, school, or in the community, can remove barriers, reduce stress, and open new opportunities for participation and independence. By shaping environments with intention, we not only support positive behaviour but also honour each person’s right to belong and be heard.

To the little girl who quiets her light so the world won’t call it too bright 😞

We see you. ❤️

We see how hard you try to smile when it doesn’t feel safe to speak. We see the way your hands twitch when you're trying to hold it all in. We see the fear behind your eyes when you're told you're too much, too sensitive, too different.

You carry a weight no child should ever have to carry. The weight of self-blame. The quiet thoughts that whisper maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m not trying hard enough, maybe I really am the problem.

But you are not.

At Lucca’s World, we don’t ask what’s wrong with you. We ask what happened to make the world think a neurodivergent mind needed to be hidden?

We see the brilliance in your silence, the depth in your stare, the storm behind your stillness. You are not broken. You do not need fixing.

And when you run whether with your feet, your thoughts, or your heart we know it’s not about escape. It’s about survival.

We are done with the world offering hollow acceptance and calling it inclusion.

Inclusion is not a beanbag in the corner. It’s not a checkbox on a form. It’s not a smile laced with discomfort.

Inclusion is when you no longer feel the need to mask.

So when someone comes to you and says they might be neurodivergent, we ask: why is there still shame in that moment? Why does that still come with a pause, a look, a lowering of the voice?

At Lucca’s World, we challenge that.

We are building a world where neurodivergent children don’t have to apologise for who they are. A world where your way of thinking, feeling, and being is not only accepted, but celebrated.

You are not stupid. You are not too much. You are not the problem.

You are enough. You are powerful. And we will never stop fighting for a world where you feel safe to be your full, unmasked self.

We see you. We hear you. We believe you. And we walk beside you always.

With all our hearts,
Lucca’s World ❤️
