Hi Yogi, Happy International Yoga Day! It’s May here.
I miss yoga. Life has changed so much over the past four years. On this special day, I’m taking a moment to reflect on my yoga journey.
I began practicing yoga in 2015, during a time when I was fighting for my residency in Australia and searching for purpose. I found my anchor in a heated yoga room. My journey started at Harlow Yoga and continued with incredible teachers at Zama Toowong, Zen Yoga, West End Yoga, and Element Yoga Studio. After two years of practice, I began to take yoga more seriously.
Following my teacher training, I launched Brisbane Rooftop Yoga. Teaching on rooftops was so much fun—it brought joy and fresh energy—but financially, it wasn’t easy. I always worked part-time jobs to support the business. While it didn’t take off as I had hoped, those five years were filled with valuable lessons. I learned so much about yoga, running a business, and navigating life itself.
Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of meeting amazing people who inspired and encouraged me to keep going in my own way. I hosted unforgettable events, like the Lorna Jane product launch where I practiced yoga with Lorna at the rooftop together, and became part of vibrant communities like Lululemon, Brisbane City Council’s Business Hub, and now the Logan Council community. I’ve met hotel directors, pub managers, fellow business owners—each one has taught me something valuable.
In the last few years, my journey has shifted again. I’ve given birth to two beautiful children and am now raising a young family. As a working mum with a full time job, I’ve come to see yoga in a new light. My practice may no longer be an hour on the mat, but mindfulness and the spirit of yoga are still with me every day. Parenting, in many ways, is yoga in action—patience, presence, and resilience.
Though I’m not currently teaching or practicing full-time, I still carry yoga in my heart. I know that one day, I’ll return to the mat and rebuild the community I love. Until then, I’ll continue practicing yoga in all the quiet, everyday moments of life.
