When I was diagnosed, I initially felt fear. I also felt ashamed and embarrassed.

I thought I’d simply made a series of poor decisions and finally paid the price.

What changed everything wasn’t motivation. It was understanding the mechanism.

Type 2 diabetes is not random. It’s a predictable metabolic response to repeated inputs — industrial seed oils, refined carbohydrates, frequent snacking, poor sleep, stress.

When you understand insulin resistance, the whole thing becomes less mysterious.

You stop guessing. You start adjusting inputs.

If your diagnosis is recent, you probably have more leverage than you realise.

DM 'EARLY'.

Why I'm sharing this now

It's been over 8 years since my reversal. Watching people struggle with the same crap advice I was given drives me mental. Some stories need to be told, especially when the mainstream narrative is keeping people sick.

Progress, not perfection

I read about the ketogenic diet and thought, 'ahh, no thanks - too extreme.' Trying to be perfect instead of consistent is a slippery slope. Had to learn that good enough, done consistently, beats perfect done occasionally.

What being diabetes-free actually feels like

No more finger-prick tests. No more meal anxiety. No more feeling like my body was working against me. It's not just about the numbers - it's about getting your life back.

January 2017 - the blood work that proved everyone wrong

My doctor was stunned. I can still remember his words: 'I don't know how you did it, but you've cured your diabetes. It's the first time I've seen anyone do that.' Makes you wonder what kind of advice he's giving everyone else.

The moment I knew this was going to work

Two months in and my blood glucose stayed at normal, non-diabetic levels even after stopping metformin. Plus, I was losing a lot of weight (although, that wasn't my primary goal). That's when I knew I was onto something real.

Month 1 - something was definitely shifting

The numbers were moving, but more importantly, I felt different. Energy was coming back. Brain fog was lifting. For the first time since my diagnosis, I actually felt hopeful.

I began taking steps to reduce stress

Regular meditation was part of it. All the perfect eating in the world couldn't overcome chronic stress. Had to get real about what was eating me from the inside. Modern life is designed to keep you in a state of constant, low-grade stress.

Sleep became non-negotiable

No more crazy hours. I used to think I could get by on minimal sleep, but poor sleep was sabotaging everything else I was trying to fix. Amazing how much easier everything becomes when you're actually rested.

I was testing my blood glucose 6 to 8 times a day

Pretty soon, the numbers dropped significantly. When I showed my doctor my progress after just a few weeks, he decided to take me off the metformin. He warned me my blood glucose would probably shoot back up once I stopped the medication. But it didn't.

I started exercising regularly

Started with a morning walk, gradually worked up to running 5km. I also made sure I got decent sleep - no more crazy hours. Began taking steps to reduce stress through regular meditation. In the early days, I didn't have any particular strategy - I just knew what I was doing previously was an epic fail.

I bought 'The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet Recipe Book'

That was my first experience of eating low-carb meals. Before my diagnosis, I was so ignorant about nutrition that I didn't know the difference between carbs, protein and fats. I'd never even heard the term macronutrients.

Here is what I used to eat, and what I mostly eat now.
