If you only remember a single sentence from this post, then let it be thisâŚ
đ A low FODMAP diet is not a long term solution for your health issues.
I canât tell you how often I see a new client and they tell me they have been on a low FODMAP diet much longer than anyone should be. And not surprisingly, are still experiencing compromised gastrointestinal function.
â ď¸FODMAPs are not the cause of your digestive issues. They are just a trigger for digestive symptoms, resulting from stealth infections, inflammation and compromised immune response.
A low FODMAP diet can definitely be a good short term solution. However, an extended low FODMAP diet can result in nutritional deficiencies and further compromise your digestive system.
You see, many FODMAP foods are an excellent source of prebioticâs, a non-digestible dietary fibre that feeds and supports your beneficial gut bacteria.
Because beneficial bacteria is a living thing, it canât just survive on its own. It needs to eat! And unless youâre feeding it, itâs not going to be able to populate your digestive system and support that all important gastrointestinal health and immune response.
You see, when your gut flora is not fed, gut health is not in balance, and your body has to work even harder to maintain homeostasis.
Therefore, staying on a significantly restricted low FODMAP diet long-term, is not good for optimal health outcomes.
