Manoora Community Garden

Manoora Community Garden MANOORA COMMUNITY GARDEN
grow * eat * educate * connect

Located at the end of Rollina Clos

The purpose of the garden is to provide a supported avenue for the community to grow produce that will lead to an increased intake of fresh fruit and vegetables and a reduction in consumption of food (non plant matter). Through the planting, growing, harvesting and eating the garden will support life long learning and cultivate a vibrant community. Whilst gardening is the focus, we envisage our community garden being a community hub for a range of activities – learning and education, playgroups, arts and creative activities, preparing, cooking and sharing food, community events, celebrations and potentially social enterprise. The community connections formed from our garden will not be limited to those of just neighbours; we have connected with our β€˜neighbour’ Wuchopperen and are already taking about cross-promotion, nutrition and healthy lifestyle education. Utilising an unused plot of land into a productive social hub is just one of the benefits of community gardening we anticipate, however it’s community groups with a shared passion for fresh organic produce that work together to learn and share knowledge of growing food, help reduce family food budgets and provide opportunities for exercise, recreation and learning, as well as spaces for contemplation and relaxation that are the indirect (positive) outcomes. Our community garden will point the way to living sustainably in an urban environment showing waste minimisation, composting and water usage techniques that can be used by people in their own homes.
