Alcohol Disguised as Self-Care: When Does It Stop Helping?
I often hear that a glass of wine helps unwind, connect, or take the edge off.. but what happens when that “self-care” becomes an illusion, and it starts taking more than it gives?
Not all addictions look the same. Some are socially accepted, even celebrated - like alcohol. But an addiction doesn’t have to be extreme to have an impact. If it’s something we rely on to feel okay, to get through certain situations, or to reward ourselves, it might be worth asking what’s underneath that need, and if there's another way to solve the discomfort.
When we have a "little drink" every day, and we feel the gap when we skip a day, it may be time to explore our relationship with this coping mechanism. It's not for everyone, but you will know when you are ready for this.
Experimenting with mindset is just about curiosity.
