〰️ Across my career, I have long held this beautiful quote in the front of my mind as I work alongside the amazing individuals I have had the privilege of working with. It has always helped me acknowledge the past, though hold out sincere hope for a changeable future.
While this quote applies to all adults, it really stands out in my work with new parents.
It is well evidenced that our experience of being raised can have a direct impact on how we approach parenting and provide care, or lack thereof, to our own children.
Early parenthood often feels like a swirl of the most complex and highly changeable emotions, often emotions that we may never have experienced prior to having a child.
If you are noticing that complex emotions - heightened anxiety like hypervigilance, anger or fear are consistently arising when parenting your child, it is highly likely that these are linked to your own experiences of being parented.
Our role as Perinatal Psychologists is two fold - to work with parents to address their own history and origin of these emotions and orient to how these experiences impact the direct care giving of their baby.
If you are feeling courageous, and ready to address the difficult emotions experienced in parenthood, and perhaps your past, we are the space to do that! Not only to change your own emotional trajectory, but that for your child too!
