🏳️‍⚧️It's Transgender Awareness Week!🏳️‍⚧️

It's a great time to raise the visibility of the transgender community and help educate, celebrate and advocate for the rights and dignity of transgender individuals.

Let's listen to their voices, learn from their experiences and stand in solidarity together.

Many organisations and communities are coming together this week to host events, workshops and discussions. MindMap offers a variety of resources for trans individuals as well as for those who aspire to be effective allies. For more information visit mindmap.act.gov.au

Join us for a free screening of the ground-breaking documentary "Seen".

This deeply moving film is more than just a screening; it’s a call to action for families, services, and communities to consider how we support children, particularly those facing adversity. Seen explores the transformative power of personal healing for parents and its scientifically proven impact on parenting and child brain development. By addressing the often-overlooked journey of parents confronting their own childhood coping mechanisms, it fills a critical gap in today’s mental health narratives.

Event Details:
📅 Date: Tuesday, 28 October 2025
🕔 Time: Arrival and check-in from 5:15 PM | Film screening begins at 5:30 PM
📍 Location: Azure Community Centre - 255 Goyder Street, Narrabundah
🎟️ Tickets: Free – Registration essential

The evening will begin with a brief introduction, followed by the film screening
and conclude with a Q&A session and casual conversations with MCCG’s
child, youth, and family programs.

💚🧠Today is World Mental Health Day. 💚🧠

Mental ill-health affects one in five people and can have long term impacts on health, wellbeing, relationships and connectedness, employment and safety.

Today reflects on the importance of mental wellbeing and looks to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Grounding techniques are great for handling stress, anxiety and strong emotions. They can help you focus on the present and feel more stable.

If you are starting to feel overwhelmed, try to identify:
💙 5 things you can see
🧡 4 things you can feel
💛 3 things you can hear
💚 2 things you can smell and
💜 1 thing you can taste

This sensory exercise can help draw your attention away from distressing thoughts.

💛R U OK?💛

Today is R U OK? Day but you don’t need to wait for one day to start up a conversation when you spot the signs that someone might be struggling.

Take the steps to start an R U OK? conversation

💛Step one: ask them how they are going.
💛Step two: listen, let them know you are there for them if they need to talk more.
💛Step three: gently encourage them to take action, can they seek help, do they want to?
💛Step four: check back in, see how they are doing.

A small act of starting a conversation could have a big impact in someone's life.

Have you heard of box breathing?

Box breathing is a breathing technique that is quick and easy to learn. It's designed to help ease feelings of stress or anxiety by redirecting your thoughts to your breath and calming your nervous system.

👉Step 1: inhale, counting to four slowly
👉Step 2: hold your breath for four seconds
👉Step 3: slowly exhale through your mouth for four seconds
👉Step 4: repeat Steps 1 to 3 until you feel more at ease

Repeat this exercise as often as possible. Practicing this technique can be beneficial, especially in stressful situations, as it helps you centre yourself and enhance your concentration.
