🪱🐍 Snake season is well and truly here on the South Coast & in the ACT 🐍🪱

Driving down the coast this weekend we spotted multiple snakes on the move – including one right in the Bega car park on Saturday. It’s a good reminder that as the weather warms up, snakes are more active around car parks, walking tracks, backyards and even kids’ play areas.

If someone is bitten by a snake in Australia, the current first aid advice is simple:

🚑 Call 000 immediately
🧣 Keep the person still and calm
🩹 Use a firm pressure bandage and immobilisation of the limb

❌ Don’t cut the bite
❌ Don’t suck out the venom
❌ Don’t wash the bite site
❌ No tourniquets

Most people survive snake bites with quick, correct first aid and urgent medical care – but panic and outdated myths can cost precious time.

If you’d like to feel more confident handling a snake bite emergency this summer, we cover snake and spider bite first aid in our courses at Gungahlia First Aid in Crace.

Stay safe out there – and watch where you step in those car parks! 🐍🙂
