⁉️ WHY DOES HYDRO FEEL SO GOOD?

Water has the power to soothe, heal and rejuvenate.

The benefits of hydrotherapy for injury treatment, strengthening and recovery have been demonstrated in clinical studies and medical research. See links in the comments section.

In fact, the mere sight and sound of water can induce a flood of neurochemicals that promote wellness, increase blood flow to the brain and heart, and induce relaxation.

Hydrotherapy offers significant advantages compared to other traditional exercise physiology treatments, including:

🔵BUOYANCY:
The natural buoyancy of water comfortably supports your weight and reduces stress on joints. Exercises and treatments are easier, more comfortable, and safer performed in water.
The buoyancy of warm water eliminates the effects of gravity, enabling a much greater variety of exercises and movements, which may not be possible on land. This is especially beneficial for those with arthritis, joint pain or those that cannot withstand high-impact exercises, like jumping.

🔵VISCOSITY:
Hydrotherapy participants benefit from water resistance which is great for muscle strengthening.
For those who can’t effectively perform standard land-based resistance programs or lift weights, hydrotherapy can involve using resistance gloves, aquatic dumbbells, small pool noodles, hand paddles, weighted leg straps, rings and fabric resistance bands to enhance muscle strength.

🔵HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE:
Water supports muscle tissue and bones naturally, helping relieve swelling in damaged or sore areas and improve joint position awareness in rehabilitation therapies.

🔵WARMTH:
Warm water is not just comfortable and soothing, it also relaxes muscle tissues and vasodilates blood vessels, which allows for increased blood flow and more efficient healing of injuries.
The warm water can also decrease swelling and inflammation and increase circulation.

Capital Hydrotherapy will always be MORE THAN just a business for me. It’s about bringing good people together - all working on the same mission…. helping our community live their best life (no matter what hand they’ve been dealt 🎲)

I take great joy in staying in contact with ex-team mates (& watching their families & careers flourish); and I’m grateful that some came back today to farewell Nina.

Thanks Kezza, Marcus, Stephen, Karlous & Dom for making the effort today. Yep, life gets busy - and seeing people in REAL LIFE takes some planning - but it’s always worth it!

A BITTER SWEET BRUNCH 🍴…. THAT ONLY AN ESPRESSO MARTINI WILL UNDERSTAND 🍸

🎲 A HANDING OVER OF THE KINGDOMS KEYS.

🚀 A PASSING OVER OF KNOWLEDGE, WIZDOM & LOVE.

✈️ After 13 years, the time has finally come for Nina to spread her wings, and move back to Sydney.

🧩 You do create your own luck - AND the past 13 years have been THE luckiest years of my life; and I’ll be forever grateful that a 4 week university prac back in 2012, turned Nina’s role into something we never thought imaginable.

That’s thousands of team huddles; 13 Capital Hydro Xmas parties; hundreds of bake offs; hundreds of Treatment Mapping sessions; hundreds of coffee dates; many walking meetings; & meticulously caring for thousands of local patients…oh, & lots of eggs, hash browns and avocado 🤣

It’s taken a couple weeks to sink in. Honestly, it may never sink in. I’ll potentially never have the words to explain what she has done for this clinic, our brand, our local community, our culture and my personal life (to allow me time to parent my 3 little humans).

I’ll have more to say over the coming days; but for now:

🧩 WINTER EXERCISE HABIT
HACKS :

💙 How do we overcome motivational barriers during winter when our habits haven’t been formed already?

How do we motivate ourselves from doing nothing, to doing something?

🔓Motivation is context dependent.
🔓 Barriers and enablers to exercise are complex and fluid. We need to understand our barriers and adapt accordingly.
🔐 Research indicates that “most” people aren’t getting enough exercise.
🔐As a society, we aren’t hitting the physical activity guidelines and the environment is a big barrier.

We are in the middle of winter, whether we like it or not- let’s set up a plan to make regular exercise a habit!

Regular exercise- as in most days of the week. It doesn’t need to be hard & painful - movement is supposed to help
you, not hurt you.

Your movement plan needs to be consistent, sustainable with small attainable & achievable goals.

We are setting up a habit. It needs to be meaningful. Let’s start small, to get us off the couch, and out the door.

Potentially, over-simplifying is a motivator using low to moderate intensity exercise at the beginning (let’s get you to lace up first!) and then build capacity for higher intensity in the latter stages.

IT’S A JOURNEY.

Thanks for having us

We whipped together a panel for our 4th year Exercise Physiology graduates. Nice work Ange; I’ll always clear my schedule for you ❤️

🧩 Big takeaways:

1) Ask questions, and learn to listen.
2) Find a solid mentor.
3) Find what you love, and do that. I was lucky I found my “joy niche” early in my career - some EPs are still searching for their speciality. Don’t give up.
4) Try lots of different types of roles; it may surprise you what you’re drawn to. You don’t know, till you try.
5) Find your work-life balance….preferably early in your career.
6) Up skill in Trauma Informed & motivational interviewing.

Good luck to the new graduates. Strap in. It may get wild….

Love it when new friends come into your life later on in the pathway. We dive straight into the deep topics, lightheartedly 😎

This is a reminder, to hang out with people you care about in real life. Even if it’s just for 60mins. We are all busy, but get your priorities in order. Saying that - I did have to set an alarm 🤣(but only because I could chat forever to this one, and a gals got things to do 🤣😇)

☀️SAME SAME- BUT DIFFERENT ☀️

Every year, Capital Hydrotherapy has a week off trade in mid July.

The pool closes. And our practitioners are encouraged to recharge, RESET, and go on an adventure. Or not. Just ease back.

It was nice to be back today after a week of “slow mode”.
